Frist downright ignorant on fed/state responsibilities RE:immigration
"The only thing that we can do to secure our borders right now is to give our states help, and that is best done through the National Guard," the Tennessee Republican told CNN's Late Edition."

Someone best clue this United States Senator that the responsibility for national border issues is the NATIONAL government... i.e. the federal government. and one of the great issues in this debate is that the federal government is shirking this duty and relying too heavily on state resources. I wonder if the Bush Plan involves bringing in out of state NG or just using NG from the border states. Either way... Frist is Fricking ignorant here and should be called on it. Immigration is a federal issue.... he says the only thing the feds can do is to HELP the states with this issue... ironically by depleting the states' gaurds even further? Stupid stupid man.

2. For 50 years Mexicans have been coming over the border illegally
in droves and suddenly, NOW, it's such a big deal that we have to call out the troops?

Why are people in this country suddenly so afraid of a bunch Mexicans who are poor as dirt?

I thought there were terrorists out there plotting to kill us? And countries with WMD?

3. Importing workers is the same as exporting jobs
I bet you're against one of those things, but not the other.

Why is that?

9. Shallow view of the job market. I bet the jobs go where the employer
wants them to go. Importing workers is better than exporting jobs, since the side effects of the employment that create more employment go to the foreign country instead of here.

But even losing jobs isn't as bad as being killed by terrorists. That was my point. I thought we were scared of being killed by terrorists. Losing a few jobs to the Mexicans (where are all those demonstrations of unemployed Americans protesting that they would have taken those jobs) - even if true, is nothing to that.

10. That's scarier than terrorists who want to kill you? Because
I thought that was why the world changed after 911.

8. No - Since 1917 Revolution
When they threw Porfirio Diaz (fascist "president for life") out.

In the 30's and 40's they were called "wetbacks," a disgusting term referring to swimming the Rio Grande.

Ain't nuthin' new in Cali, 'Zona, Newmexico and Texus.

7. Classic Non-Border State Politician
This is why both California and Texas sued the federal government (and got laughed out of court) for reimbursement of expenses for illegal immigration.

This clown does not even know what he doesn't know.
