Poll question: Bush's address to the nation Monday night -- as advertized?
Bush is scheduled to address the nation Monday evening.

Advance word is that he will discuss immigration on our southern border.

Do you believe that is his topic, or do you believe it might be something else?

_ _ _

POLL: "I believe President Bush's address will be..."

2. Terror, Terror, Terror
9/11 will be used in the first 2 sentences. Guaranteed.

Not a word will be said about Rove. No questions will be answered afterwards.

"Pay no attention to the prosecutor behind the curtain, y'all. I'm talking about terror here!"

8. And it seems just like Bush to fall back on the cry-wolf BS, too.
I hope it isn't what he does, but I admit it sounds exactly like the guy.

3. When he's holding news conferences...
and sending Laura to TV talk shows, things are going really, really badly for him. "Yosh" (or whatever dumb nickname he has) Bolten probably already has an ulcer.

And it's only going to get worse, seems like.

LOL!

Yes, that's Dubya's signature topic, isn't it. How those freedom-hating terra-ists are gonna git us.

God I hope he is blasted in the media & Congress if he tries to frighten us with "terra along our borders."

18. Hi, dubeskin, and a warm welcome to DU. I love your state.
I try to visit the Bay Area often -- not far from you there in Sacramento -- but not often enough to satisfy me. I get homesick for it, even though it's not my home anymore.

I'm sensing that something is going on with this speech, but I can't put my finger on it. It doesn't sound right. It doesn't sound like the timing is quite right, or the timing lined up with the topic, or something.

It just feels 'off.'

You could be right on the content. And we'll find out soon enough, I guess.

Thanks for your reply & I hope to read more of your posts on DU.

9. To show us the 7.5lb perch he had mounted.
Seriously though, we are starting what may be a very interesting day, with the dollar plunging, stock market sagging, indictments probably looming and the things going so well in Iraq (sarcasm).

14. As advertised
I think he will wrap his plans in terra, terra, terra. But I think he will present his speech as advertised since he is utterly disconnected from reality. This is just like his Social Security speeches - he could NOT get the fact that people thought his plans were shit. He just kept going on and on about it.

I think he believes his immigration solutions are all that. And if he tells us all loudly enough, over and over, we'll get it.

Besides, he can address "the nation" and doesn't have to risk anymore hecklers. He can say he has delivered the message and screw even sending out invites since even those events are getting dicey.

15. I think you captured the psychological faultline of this president
with the comparison to the Social Security campaign he waged -- stubbornly refusing to accept that people sharply disagreed with him. He just kept hammering away.

riderinthestorm, I think that's the signature psychological trait of Bush's public presidency.

Ya nailed it.

26. Bush seems to think that Hispanics who support him now are going
to be hogwild about national guard troops along the U.S.-Mexico border.

I don't think that's going to be the case.

27. upi402, do you think his numbers can remain around 30% if
he's perceived as ineffective on all fronts?

At this point, he's way down from his "political capital" days in November of 2004.

A majority of Americans believe Bush-Cheney stole the 2004 election. A majority oppose warrantless wiretapping and data-mining and may come to accept that Bush lied about the NSA's plans. Iraq is a holy mess -- it's unsecured, and bodies and rubble are just piling up everywhere, and even a pro-military veteran Congressman like John Murtha is calling for troop withdrawal. Old-time conservatives like Bill Buckley and George Will are shaking their heads in dismay. Bill Kristol, ever the loyal Nazi, sounds so whiney and unpersuasive that Stephen Colbert can knock him off. The economy, while not at historic lows, is under considerable strain. The Medicare plan is indecipherable and older Americans blame Bush for that. Cheney has been photographed snoozing through at least 2 Cabinet meetings. And the president's long-time political advisor Karl Rove continues under a cloud of heavy suspicion and may be indicted outright.

There is a core group in deep denial, but at some point even they have to realize that this presidency is a failure. They are likely to be outvoted in any case this November.

I don't think the governing landscape looks very bright for Mr. Bush.

23. How many times do we get to hear him say "9/11"??
He will have his kool aid chugging base convinced that it was every Mexican who crossed the border in the first 8 months of 2001 as being the ones who "caused" 9/11.

25. Hi, rainbow4321. An associate of mine emailed the question, "Since
when is Lou Dobbs dictating Dubya's policy with Mexico?"

This could be a difficult address to listen to -- worse than Bush's usual, I mean -- and his usual is already pretty bad.

This is just a joke! I do NOT wish to cause my fellow DU'ers severe hepatic toxicity.

Alternative: Drink ONE shot of tequila & turn off the TV.
