GORE TO DELIVER SCATHING SPEECH on 'constitutional crisis' MONDAY!

Gore to deliver scathing speech Monday on 'constitutional crisis' in Washington
John Byrne
Published: January 12, 2006

Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver a scathing speech Monday at Constitution Hall in Washington -- just blocks from the White House -- at which he will declare America is faced with a constitutional crisis, RAW STORY has learned.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day speech is set to take place at noon at the Daughters of the American Revolution's Constitution Hall. Gore will be introduced by onetime Georgia Republican congressman Bob Barr.

A source close to the erstwhile vice president related details of Gore's expected speech to RAW STORY Thursday. The source noted that Gore prepares the final editions of his speeches just before he delivers them, but that the tenor of the speech would focus on what the Tennessee Democrat has described as a President acting above the law.

“We are at a point of constitutional crisis," the aide said, relating how Gore has articulated his speech. "The president who has violated the law is acting above the law. It’s a wakeup call for Congress, the American people and the courts. If we continue down this road we will have a different constitution.

"Nixon’s quote about if the president does it it is legal, it’s kind of like Bush saying, if it’s about national security, it’s legal. This is going to be called transpartisan; it’s not about who your party is, it’s about what America stands for."

1. Tell me something....Does this sound like a "recovering" politician to you
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 12:33 PM by Nickster
Not that I have a problem with it, not at all. But does he really sound like he's out of the game? Oh yeah, and where in the heck can I see/hear it?

17. Think of the good a Gore candidacy will do for the race.
Just like Dean and Kucinich raised issues in the 2004 campaign which later became part of the general issues debated on the stump by the other candidates, including ChimpCo, Gore could make a positive influence.

Does anybody here doubt that Albert Gore Jr. would not make a fine chief executive? He is increasingly showing his leadership qualities. Our country desparately needs somebody with those qualities. With his current passion Gore can win in 2008.

Myself, I am hoping that Gore will launch an exploratory committee after the new Congress convenes in 2007. He could then impose significant influence on the form and substance of the campaign language. This would be a great thing, regardless of whether Gore himself was perceived as the front-runner.

12. He Is Such A Fighter Now - We Need Him
badly - There are so few Dem's in office now who are fighters. The front runner has been all over the place trying to appease the right-wing of the democratic party. Then there's Biden....ugh!

4. Yes, in fact it DOES sound like someone who is no longer interested in
getting himself elected.

himself. It's working on me at least.

20. IT IS THE TAO OF POLITICS.
It has never been achieved.

You have to truly, truly, utterly ABANDON the notion that you "want to be elected".

You have to truly, truly, utterly BELIEVE that your PRINCIPLES are right and true, and that your PRINCIPLES are driving you, and that you care precisely FUCK-ALL about "getting elected."

But you cannot ever, for one minute, "fake it". You can never, for one minute say to yourself, "hey self, if I truly believe I'm principled, I might just get elected!!". BZZZT. Wrong. You lose.

You must passionately prefer to be defeated (yes that's right) having campaigned solely on principle rather than to win by 'faking it'

Did you see the huge media coverage of Al Gore personally airlifting hurricane victims out of New Orleans after Katrina?

NO?!

That's right, there WAS no media coverage! And he sought NO interviews about the event! Why? because maybe, just maybe, he actually felt morally compelled to ACT without regard to the political implications of his actions.

Here is a picture.

This the Tao of politics.
The Democrats desperately need it.
Al Gore just might have it.

(hint: watch "The Tao of Steve" for a sort of anti-example. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0234853/ )

11. Gore is Jack's overdeveloped sense of duty.
Gore does feel like he has a responsibility to say such things, even if he's not running. A rare individual. Would win in a landslide in 2008, if he lowered himself to run.

9. I hope we can see this on CSPAN
...you know the corporate media will ignore it, unless they cover it only to accuse him of being 'crazy'.

Thank you, Mr. Gore, for continuing to speak out against the thugs in power.

16. afterward we'll hear Limpballs, Boors, O'Lielly & the rest of the
well-paid slimeball liars say how "crazy" and "angry" and "wild-eyed" and "foaming at the mouth" "Algore" is. No attention will be paid to the validity of his message (save for some out-of-context remarks that can be replayed endlessly to an accompaniment of disbelieving derision), only to his "anger"--he may even pound on the podium for emphasis, which would delight them no end.
These hacks are spewing spittle in their demented worked-up rages against "bedwetting liberals," yet Gore is the "crazy" one? Go figure.

No matter, Gore always speaks the truth, with emotion and emphasis, and no matter what "they" will say about it, his words are just more, a lot more, added to the tidal wave of truth that is starting to smack Americans right upside the head. I know there will be some for whom his words are the proverbial straw ...

19. Great News...but beware...everytime Gore gives major speech som
big National Event occurs and it's never covered. I wish I had links to verify but other DU'ers might remember that "something" always happens when Gore speaks out. It's like he's cursed with the timing.

Let's all hope that at least C-Span will cover and repeat it. We know the Media wont whether an "Event" takes prescident or not.

Good for him...I really hope he runs but he won't unless he's drafted by overwhelming support.
