Karl Rove Planted His Own Indictment Story
This is a favorite trick of his. He's a master at setting false expectations or supplying false information only later to find out it wasn't true, and thus, making his opponents look foolish. For reference, see the Bush/AWOL story of 2004. Rove planted those fake documents on CBS.

I don't doubt TO. I don't doubt the sources. It's just that where Rove is concerned you have to be 100% careful at all times.

31. He's hoping when he is indicted it will be "old news" and ho-hum.
But we will all shout out to Karl, "Nice try, though".

42. If JL and TO were picked to get "Roved", you have to ask yourself why?
If it turns out that Jason Leopold and TruthOut were singled out to get their credibility smashed (like Rather), that actually means the White House recognizes their power in my opinion.

Rather WAS powerful at CBS, and a powerful liberal (small "l" liberal but still, definitely leftward leaning). And CBS was/is a playa in the news for many, many years. I believe they were picked to be Roved, to be brought down, to dilute their power for nefarious purposes.

If it is proved that the same thing has happened to JL and TO... wow!!! That would be something to dissect.

12. Yea, the "Liberal blogosphere" said Rove had 24 hours..
And as you can clearly see Rove was actually given 26 hours before his indictment was announced.

More proof that Liberals are liars and Rove is a good man.

Obviously :sarcasm:

4. it wouldn't surprise me
The White House is trying to "create fear" that dems are overealous
and rabid in their persuit of the administration.

Now they are trying to fabricate a few "proof points"
so they can say.. "look.. see it's true !!!.. overreaching...
personal destruction... blah blah blah"

Whatever thet are trying to do... it's not working
very well for them...is it ???

As for indictments.. when they come ... they come.
And then we can look forward to convicting these sons of bitches.
Afterall.. they BROKE THE LAW. It's that simple.

If he did this, it would be typical Rove strategy. If the story is shown to be false we would get the same old "The liberal media is lying again to make Bush look bad" nonsense from the MSM.

14. im not sure i believe rove planted the cbs documents.
i think if he planted them he would have had the proof emerge that they were fake. they were never debunked.

what I do believe is that when he found out that cbs couldnt PROVE that they were genuine he went on the attack.

i dont think he planted this indictment story either.

16. I just posted a similar notion on another thread.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1190826

Perhaps there is one other scenario and that is that, yes, this is a Rovian setup, not of Jason Leopold, but of a few "lower level" White House staffers suspected of being leakers.

This WH is notorious for its paranoia about secrecy. With all the scandals rocking DC these days--and seemingly more breaking with each passing week--it may be that they want to "shore up" suspected leaks. This seems plausible with new revelations breaking every few days not only over Plamegate but the Goss/Foggo/Cummingham affair, the NSA domestic spying as well as other scandals known and as of yet unknown. There also may be other issues they want to keep close to the vest such as an impending Iran invasion, dirty tricks and smear campaigns for the upcoming elections, and God knows what other nefarious plans they may have.

Could it be that a false story was fed to a handful of staffers going into a weekend when it would be less likely for any reporters to confirm some of the details in order to ferret out suspected leakers at a time in which the WH can ill afford any more leaks?

At this time, I don't really believe this is the case but it does seem like at least a possibility.

17. I don't think Rove planted this
If he did then the two people who talked to Jason are going to be nailed. If they are nailed then Rove will be nailed. Rove doesn't work that way. He plants fake information that the media picks up as real then exposes it as fake. If he did this then he just screwed the two people who are Jason's sources.

41. That's a chicken/egg dilemma. They can't rip it until it's been
reported (in SCLM) - but they can't really 'report' it without lending credibility, at the beginning at least...I guess they could start out with an "expose'" of an internet story but would they really want to give the impression they were behind the curve on the story? The whole thing is beyond bizarre no matter what the facts really are.

18. Whether or not Rove planted the story of indictment himself...
I am glad that I have stopped allowing myself to become excited about such news. Even if it happens (the indictment)there is always the chance of pardon.

I am so sick of these Republicans getting away with murder and we are chasing behind them waving the banners of all the crimes they created from 2000 till now with no satisfaction of seeing appropriate punishment.

It's not good for the health to get all keyed up like this and then being constantly disappointed. It is going to be real interesting when the Democrats are finally back in power to watch the Repubs try to take back some of the freedom from paying for crime that the GOPs have bestowed upon themselves.

25. Exactly
Rove plants false information with the media to out their "liberal bias".

It's all about making him look like he exceeded expectations. If the expectation is that he will be indicted, then the opposite is true. Thus, when he's not indicted, he will look like a hero who beat back an over-zealous prosecutor and the wacky leftist blogs, who no longer can be trusted.

Not that Rove wouldn't do anything so underhanded, but to plant news of his upcoming indictment to a (let's face it) not very well known journalist? I don't think so. :tinfoilhat:

If Leopold ran with a story that said Rove's indictment was a sure thing...all the time knowing it wasn't a sure thing (which is my theory) then Leopold will have to pay the price. His reputation will suffer, as well it should. Sorry to sound so harsh, but IMO Leopold figured there was a good chance of a Rove indictment and he ran with a story without knowing the facts. I have no sympathy for him if it turns out he was bullshitting everyone.
