Am I the only one who thinks this "Rove planted the indictment story"
Edited on Mon May-15-06 11:41 AM by CatWoman
mentality is stupid?

Ok, stupid is such a strong word. Fucking sue me.

But I've always maintained that DU gives Rove a lot more credit than he's worth.

4. And the "the media isn't picking it up" thing
You'd think after all these years of media merely typing up what the WH tells them, people would stop using that as a ruler.

The media closing it's eyes should tell us Leopold is on the right track.

32. The Media haven't closed their eyes
The media not picking up on it is not an indicator Leopold is correct. CBS is now saying they cannot verify the story. They also said had NY Times published this story, there would have been a complete media circus, inferring Truthout was not a credible source.

36. If their eyes aren't closed it's only because,
they have gouged them out of their heads.

before Patrick Fitzgerald actually announces such an event.

8. It doesn't have to be Rove himself.
There are dozens of GOP hitmen willing to do Segretti-esque dirty tricks for their boss. Remember Roger Stone?

And yes, unfortunately, I think we've been played.

but what's sad is that in this administration one has to actually make a point of negating the possibility. :)

14. Why would this be worth it to him/his supporters
I see all the arguments about reputation and all that but given the attention span of the American public and that most of them never heard of TO, I don't see that it is worth it to him.

Also isn't he very likely to be indicted sometime anyway, so what would be the big deal about spreading it as a rumor - he wouldn't look like much of a victim anyway. It is well known they are working towards it, so the mere timing is the only thing here.

15. You're absolutely right.
Rove is really nothing more than a moderately smart guy with absolutely no ethics or morality. The whole "evil genius" persona he likes to wrap himself in is so much bullshit. When he wins, it's because he's willing to stoop to things that no sane human being would even contemplate.

I think that right now, Rove is probably drinking antacid from the bottle because he knows that Fitzgerald can't be swift boated.

18. Rove Has Done This Before
He did it to CBS. He was born and bred under the dirty tricks era Nixon politics, and he studied under Lee Atwater. He's done this several times. He coordinated the planting of false evidence with Judith Miller to build support for invading Iraq.

It's anything but "stupid". Rove loves it when the opposing side over-reaches.

27. I don't doubt your claims
but give me a break here.

Of course the guy is an immoral, devious dirtbag. doesn't take a lot of imagination in order to do immoral, devious acts.

Can we agree that it is inevitable that the dirtbag will soon be indicted?

so what difference does it make?

20. excessive paranoia
I agree with you--people give Turdblossom way too much credit. He's a smearmonger and dirt shoveler and evil, but his talents are limited. And as with most liars, they are found out sooner or later.

How did he do as policy chief in 2005? He was off the mark, a failure. He wasn't able to judge the public's feelings on Social Security "reform" or anything else. He was a big failure.

If it doesn't have to do with attacking or smearing a political opponent, he's no good.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I won't believe Rove's indicted until Fitz appears on TV and tells me so.

And I happen to think Rove is one wily mofo who is capable of anything.

I'm going to go take a nap. :-)

25. I agree with you. Here's why:
If Rove/cohorts had planted the story, they'd be in full spin mode discounting it, we'd be hearing the other side of it right now and we're not. I still think the indictment announcement will come soon.

30. Jason wouldn't have
just picked his sources up off a street corner. These would be people he has cultivated and come to trust over numerous tip-offs and time.

Rove being able to influence that group would have the same odds of success as Bush being accepted into an Al Qida camp.

31. I believe this may be a Rovian plant - Here's the clue...
Edited on Mon May-15-06 12:58 PM by Julius Civitatus
Rove is NOTORIOUS for this kind of shit.

Notice that Rove's spokesman did not deny the story until it was published. Any attempts by Truthout to confirm with Karl Rove's spokesman Mark Corallo was ignored. A day after it's publishes and reaches critical mass on the web, then Corallo comes out to deny it with a vengeance, destroying the credibility of the source.

This is, once again, TYPICAL ROVIAN MANEUVER. By the book.

34. Occam's Razor makes it all rather silly.
It's like the idea that the 9-11 jets shot missles into the WTC a split second before crashing into them. OK, it's not that silly, but it's still pretty silly.

35. if it is media-related disinformation, spin, lies about the bush gang
or ratfucking

then Rove is behind it

He is not a strategic contributor--he is the dirty tricks, disinformation, media control guy

he is Lee Atwater's "prize" student

what he does in the political process needs to be codified as treason, which it certainly is. it poisons democracy.
