BREAKING, WP: ROVE'S FATE WILL BE LEARNED VERY SOON
Edited on Mon May-15-06 11:38 AM by Halliburton
<snip>
Miami, Fla.: The blogs are abuzz with reports of Karl Rove's impending (some say actual)indictment. What's the story?

Tom Edsall: I think we will know very soon, perhaps as soon as early afternoon. No guarantee, however.

11. If it breaks this afternoon - no way the MSM will stay quiet
I don't think they're that loyal to the WH; this is a juicy story that's had people gossiping all weekend. And I bet ABC will be the first to report it, considering the new revelation today their journalists are being wiretapped.

When he's ready, he's ready.

3. I heard Bush is under extreme pressure to make this speech tonight,
and that he really, really doesn't want to do it. If Rove is indicted, and the announcement is made today, the timing couldn't be worse for Bush and the GOP.

I'm really very happy about this prospect... :)

23. yeah, he doesn't really want to do much about.........
...the immigrant situation because he has been trying to gain the latino vote. But now the Republicans want action. Also, the minutemen said if Bush doesn't build a fence along the border, they said they would build it themselves! I think that's the only reason why he wants to use the Nat'l Guard along the border.........because he doesn't want some vigilante group doing the job the govt should be doing.

I also heard he talked to Fox and Fox was not pleased about him using the Guard along the border. Apparently he told Fox that the Guard would only be there temporarily. Whether or not he actually meant that is anyone's guess........

13. Rove could delay it
by taking time to respond to possible queries connected to a planned indictment. I think this is what H2O Man's post speculated upon. That would be small molehill of a victory in timing which they have in the past used to great, obscenely absurd advantage in the past. Fitzpatrick, after all, is not out to ruin Bush's speech. Rove is in the business of winning poltical points unfairly. I would not be surprised if sealed indictments were not annnounced today nor surprised if the news downplays the date they were indeed written down to play the deceptive Rove game one more time. Nor would I be shocked to see Leopold and Truthout to be attacked no matter what the facts or a stony MSM silence to settle over any vindication they might earn.

20. that's right on the mark
rove could, and would if he could, delay it.

The indictment could be a negotiating tool of Fitz's to elicit more from rove before proceeding. If there's one indictment, there could be others to follow if rove doesn't do business with Fitz.

38. Maybe.....just maybe
They won't indict him and he'll spill his guts about all the wrongdoing that's been going on in the Whitehouse. To a guy like Rove, the prospect of going to jail, even a country club jail, has got to be awfully scary. It would certainly be nice to see him turn squealer on the Bush administration. I wonder if he's as loyal to the cause as he seems.

40. What is most likely going on now is ....
Rove and his counsel are pouring over a showing of evidence Fitz has presented to them which he intends to use at trial, and a plea offer with a short drop dead date.

Rove and his lawyer are probably looking into their crystal ball and trying to determine if they can bank on a Presidential pardon at this stage of Bush's term with such low poll numbers.

Rove and lawyer are obviously at the end of playing for time. Decision time.

47. This news cycle...
...I understand that Rove and co would want to delay it at least for a day, hopefully two or three, so Bush can get a "boost" from the speech. At least to not have the speech shown up by Rove's frog march.

But how does Bush get a boost anyway? Does anybody like this "military at the border" plan? Anybody? Even those who may be open to it, how's it going to work that makes sense?

I don't think this is going to go over like they're hoping it will, even with wingnuts. The military at the border thing is scary and impractical (where do the troops come from?). The guest worker thing seems guaranteed to piss off ALL sides of the issue (wingnuts will think it's amnesty for millions of criminals; others will say it's a badly planned route to citizenship). That's part one.

Part two is, the stealth big story of the day...the deadline for medicare plan enrollment. Want to bet there'll be some stories on the news featuring confused old people trying to get it done and failing? (I live in Florida, I would expect at least some local coverage along those lines.) Bush refused to extend the deadline, so the continuing chaos here is on his head.

Don't be so impatient for Rove. Bush is going to have a bad enough day and evening, guaranteed. Rove's indictment would make it catastrophic....but in all the post-speech analysis on the networks, how positive can it really get?

59. Media will not touch Rove until Fitz announces. (R)s praying otherwise
Laura Bush comments that some people in the media seem to be enjoying her husband's non-existent woes. The Pukes have ALWAYS claimed the media is a liberal sewer. Fitz must remain untainted by any perception of partisanship. This is about the law.

Pukes are praying that someones (like, say, a Dan Rather) in the media will gang up and gloat and prematurely divulge the workings of a grand jury.

As soon as they have been formally briefed, they will cut into Bush's immigration sppech with breaking news if they have to. Then again, the issue of immigration is so important, do we want anyone to let Bush and the Pukes off the hook by celebrating Rove's demise in the streets?

I get the taste of blood in my mouth when I'm thinking of chowing down on a medium rare steak as well. I'm willing to fast for a few more days, or however long it takes.

Think about it.
