Change your phone to Working Assets and get a Bush Doormat!

And here is there answer to me about the NSA phone records.

Dear Mr. ****

Thank you for your email concerning your interest in the subject of warrantless
monitoring of American citizens' communications by the National Security Agency.

Working Assets has taken the following position on this subject:

Working Assets believes that the warrantless monitoring of phone conversations
ordered by the Bush administration is both illegal and alarming.

We will pursue this issue through our citizen action program, and by supporting
organizations committed to preserving civil liberties in America.

Working Assets has never been approached by any government agency seeking our
help in illegally accessing the content of conversations by our customers, and
we would refuse any such request.

We have information regarding the conduct of our underlying carrier (Sprint).

You may also be interested in a new book we are publishing, entitled How Would A
Patriot Act?, which contains a cohesive analysis of how the NSA's wiretapping
fits into a larger scheme by the Bush Administration to violate Constitutional
restrictions on executive authority in an unprecedented manner. Here is a link
to that book: <http://www.workingforchange.com/webgraphics/publishing.html>

I hope this letter addresses your query, and I thank you for your long time
support of Working Assets.

Sincerely,

Nancy

4. Just switched to Working Assets this month
It's costing a little more but part of the money goes to worthwhile projects that I support. I recommend everyone switch to this progressive company. You can be sure your phone records will be protected.

7. Who owns them and is their service reliable? Is it hard to switch
from Bell South? What about my cell phone plan? Won't I get penalized? Anyone have any experience with this?

8. I think they own themselves
Although they do use Sprint's network for cell service. We use them for long distance and cellular and have had nothing but good things to say about their customer service. If they offered local service or Internet, we'd be using WA for those as well, particularly after Verizon's involvement in the NSA spying and the tepid responses they've given to my husband's letters of protest.

I can't help you with switching from Bell South, though.

9. They're one of several mini-coms that the major carriers were required to
create thru divestiture due to monopoly restrictions in (I think) the telecom act.

Most did not take themselves seriously as independent competitive entities (for instance one we set up with in Dallas promptly abandoned us)... especially if they were seeking to get re-purchased by one of the big networks, as often happens when little guys are allowed to get contracts for the sake of competition, minority representation, etc.

But the potential is certainly there. Perhaps Working Assets execs see a potential in the post-Fox era to be more than just a niche market premium brand offshoot of Sprint.

10. Thanks for the replies and they are interesting. But WHO OWNS THEM?
That's what it comes down to for me. I don't want some "Think Tank" or "Foundation" who would turn against me after I change everything over to them. And, I worry that Sprint was complicit with NSA Spying. After all the article in USA TODAY said ONLY QUEST refused to comply with NSA.

I just don't want to jump from the "fire into the frying pan." I think other DU'ers would be concerned about taking all the time, loss of money and convenience it takes to SWITCH Phone Plans and end up with less service and another carrier who was the same but with some Lib Perks that we dealt with before.

 I want to change so badly...but I need more info. I Googled "Working Assets" and still didn't come up with who owns them and that they don't buy usage from AT&T so that my "transmissions" can be monitored even though WA's can say they don't give out my NAME or their "Subsciber Base."

All anyone needs these days is a "phone number" to know everything if you send it to ChoicePoint or the US Govt.
