Skepticism, Gullibility and Bias
Gullibility and Bias

gulli·bili·ty
n
tendency to believe too readily and therefore to be easily deceived

bi·as
n.
1. A preference or an inclination, especially one that inhibits impartial judgment.

Folks, these are two human traits that are not good traits to possess. They cloud the mind and prevent it from working properly. Just like the mind will be tricked by visual illusions, so will it be tricked when it is told something it wants to hear. If one wishes to become knowledgable and respected, one must not possess either of these traits.

Skepticism

skep·ti·cism
n.
1. A doubting or questioning attitude or state of mind;

This trait is a good trait to possess, in moderation. It fosters critical thinking, logical analysis, and informed decision making. Skepticism allows the mind to challenge its own beliefs, and when the challenge is met and overcome, make those beliefs even stronger than before.

Ditch the Gullibility and Bias.
Go get some Skepticism.

1. Faith, Loyalty and Belief
Faith and Loyalty are good human qualities, unfortunately they fuel fierce passions when a Belief they are aligned with ends up challenged.

What we saw last weekend is the same sort of basic human response to belief, faith and loyalty that has caused religion to be at the root of many of western civilizations divisive battles.

2. Like they said in the movie "Dogma"...
... Having a good idea is better than codifying it into a Belief.

And Faith is different from Blind Faith.
Loyalty is different from Cronyism.
