He won't have fun in prison but it also won't be anything like most americans think prison is actually like. (and I'm talking in either direction, he won't experience prison-rape, which is largely a myth, nor will he be in "club-fed" which is entirely a myth).

even the minimum security prisons in the federal system SUCK. It's still prison, your freedom is extremely curtailed. I realize you have no way of knowing what these places are like, but the idea that these things are a cakewalk is completley inaccurate.

People have a completely unrealistic concept of what prison is like. Even the maximum security prisons do not see nearly the violence that most people think exists in them. Minimum security prisons do not typically see the rates of murder that you get in a maximum security prison (which is much lower than most people have an impression of). Martha Stewart was not on vacation and that's a huge insult to all of those who are suffering in the prison system for years at a time for minor things such as marijuana possession. Prison is no breeze. The suffering in prison doesnt typically result from violence (sexual or otherwise), it comes from the total lack of freedom. All of this said fights do occur and they occur frequently, mostly over things like what station a television is tuned to. People in prison learn quickly what to do to avoid putting themselves into these types of situations. Most harassment comes from the correctional officers than from the inmates. These guys are typically ex-military hard core right wingnuts who get off on harassing people.

It's funny to see someone who thinks that prison serves as a deterrent. It does no such thing. It's the same argument used for the death penalty. No one who commits a crime thinks they are going to get caught and they certainly don't think to themselves "if i do get caught i'll just have to go to a little white collar prison" Heck look at this thread. It's all about finding it funny that Karl Rove could be raped in prison. Most of the people you speak to think this is what prison is like. I don't give a fuck who Rove is and what awful things he has done. NO ONE deserves to be raped. period. end of discussion. Does he deserve to have his fredom taken away? yes absolutely. annd hopefully it will teach him something about the bullshit policies he has pushed since he brought Bush to power.

I realize you are speaking as someone who simply isn't aware of what these places are like but speaking as someone who knows a lot about this particular issue, I try to take the opportunity to educate someone about it a little bit when I can.
