Immigration debate on C-span
Anyone watching?

It is sad our Dem leaders are not able to put together a tougher unified, intellegent voice in this debates. The Hagel/Martinez Compromise gives the employers another free pass.

Sen. Cornyn ( R ) just made the argument for his amendment to get tough on immigration absconders (ITIN status of existing Immigration Laws).

His spew is littered with Repuke “Security” speak

2. Well illegal immigration is a security issue
I mean I don't understand how people think it isn't.

The problem with this debate is that there is an Immigration Debate and an Illegal Immigration debate, and we just mix the two.

I favor, at the very least, tripling the amount of legal immigrants we allow from Mexico and Latin America. If people want to come here that bad, let's let them in.

But when it comes to illegal immigration, it is a problem. It's not safe for us and it's not safe for the illegal immigrants to have that many undocumented people in our country.

4. Why just Latin America
People want to come here from all over the world

This is what I DON'T like about this debate. Why should 1 race be exclusively given a free pass to gain entry.

5. Fair enough
I say Latin America because that's what this debate centers on, but I'd be in favor of upping the quotas across the board (except of course for Missourians. Those people should stay where they are).

9. Very similar.
I'm not sure what your point is here. I suspect it's "Youre racist because you care about Illegal Immigration, but don't care about Gays or Abortion Doctors getting killed" but I could be wrong. Anyway both problems should be dealt with - this sort of violence is unacceptable.

7. Chimpy says the Guard
will not be doing police-type activities (which would be against Posse Comitatus)--they'll be doing construction and transportation. Why not just put those activities out for bid--you know, Uncle H*burton could help out--or maybe Uncle BlackH2O.

10. Just buying time for Haliburton
to put together a bid for border security

I didn't think of that angle but it is a strong possibility. You think they'll give contractors the same blankit legal imunity they gave them in Iraq.

That could be a nightmare
