Lawmaker wants schools to track illegals.
DENVER - State Representative Jim Welker, R-Loveland, introduced a bill on the first day of session that, if passed, would force schools to ask all students when they register for school if they are legal U.S. citizens.

Students could prove their citizenship by showing a birth certificate or social security card. They would not be required to answer, but the lawmaker says this would give an accurate look at the illegal immigrant problem.

...

Chavez also worries that, if passed, immigrant families might be intimidated from sending their kids to school. "I'm discouraged to see any efforts or initiatives that would hamper or squelch a young student's enthusiasm for school," Chavez says. "Or worse yet, create a fear factor for a student and their families."

So, should schools be in the INS business or not?

1. No, the schools should NOT do the INS's job.
Many of the schools hardly have the time or resources to TEACH--beyond the test, that is.

2. I disagree
Schools should know the immigration status of its pupils. I am a Democrat who feels we need to get control of our border and stop allowing illegal immigrant to destroy our country. I understand their need to provide for their families but not at the expense of lowering the American wage scale.

3. Keeping children ignorant will destroy our country ...

In Texas, most school money comes from Property Taxes. Most undocumented workers are renters--but we renters DO pay when taxes go up. Landlords do not absorb the difference.

Since there's no state income tax, Sales Tax is pretty high. Everybody pays that.

Of course, Mississippi may be nearer to destruction than Texas. Are you sure the undocumented are to blame?

4. Question.
How do children of illegal immigrants destroy the country by going to school?
