America: The Lawful Evil Kingdom of Chimpy the First.
Technically, America now qualifies as "Lawful Evil." Check it out.

Lawful Evil

"Dominator"

A lawful evil character methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard for whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules but without mercy or compassion. He's comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but is willing to serve. He is loath to break promises, and is therefore very cautious about giving his word unless a bargain is clearly in his favour.

This reluctance comes partly from his nature and partly because he depends on order to protect himself from those who oppose him on moral grounds. Some lawful evil villains have particular taboos, such as not killing in cold blood (but having underlings do it) or not letting children come to harm (if it can be helped). They feel these personal morals put them above unprincipled villains.

Many lawful evil characters use society and its laws for selfish advantages, exploiting the letter of the law over its spirit whenever it best suits their interests.

Some lawful evil people and creatures commit themselves to evil with a zeal like that of a crusader committed to good. Beyond being willing to hurt others for their own ends, they take pleasure in spreading evil as an end unto itself. They may also see doing evil as part of a duty to an evil deity or master.

Lawful evil is sometimes called "diabolical", because devils are the epitome of lawful evil. Lawful evil is methodical, intentional, and frequently successful devotion to evil.

A tyrannical ruler who drafts the rules to suit himself, a corrupt lawyer or judge who uses the law to mask his own misdeeds, and a villain who acts according to his own code are all examples of Lawful Evil characters.

An example of a lawful evil character is Artemis Entreri. In wider fiction, such characters as Superman's arch enemy Lex Luthor, Ernst Stavro Blofeld of the James Bond novels, Darth Vader and Doctor Doom and "IT" from A Wrinkle in Time epitomize the typical Lawful Evil character.

3. Could be. Can "IUZ the Old for President" be far behind?
And how weird is it that in 2006 America, the best analogies for our place in the world are pencil and paper roleplaying games from the 1970s?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_Iuz "The Empire of Iuz is classified by the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer as an "imperial theocratic dictatorship." Though Iuz holds all power, his rule is inconsistent. Iuz's priesthood and other spellcasters manage the affairs of the empire in his name. Iuz and his servants have more control over some regions of the empire than others."

Doesn't that sound more like Washington DC than, say, any Hollywood movie about American Politics made in the past 30 years?

4. I think you're on to something here...
Back before Shrub was nonelected, I remember several profiles of him in the MSM mentioned that he loved playing computer games.

Could it be that he loved role-playing games? Has he perhaps patterned his Presidency on Baldur's Gate or the Elder Scrolls? Maybe he was a D&D fan as a kid. He could be bringing the Empire of Iuz to fruition. All the Christian claptrap may just be a diversion.

Now where did I put my +14 Mallet of Dolt Whomping?

2. Ah, D&D jokes. Excellent.
Never cared for the whole alignment thing myself.

You could almost see Gary Gygax and some other nerd arguing over which was better: Moorcock and Tolkien.

5. D&D players never argue; they roll for initiative.
"I strike your anti-environment legislation with my +8 Sword of Sharpness!"
