Why shouldn't Bush consider catching that fish the best moment
of his presidency?

After all, he was just a face, a facade, an empty shell selected by the powers that be of the Republican party. All he had to do was say and do what he was told. Continue to go to bed at 10:00 pm, not bother his "pretty little head" and just have fun.

Then 9/11 happened and things got confused but he is back on track now. Doing and saying what is told. When he tries to venture on his own, like denying the wiretapping, or insisting that he would not back off the port security agreement - he then is called by his handler(s) to set him straight and to retract.

How easy and acceptable it would have been for him had his reply to that question was when he stood on the rubble of the World Trade Center and took the megaphone from one of the workers and said: But I can Hear YOU."

This really was only his shining moment that I can think of. A non-rehearsed spontaneous one that he has long cashed several times over.

I don't remember his speech to the nation that evening, I just remember how disappointed I was. And in contrast I remembered the Reagan eulogy of the Challenger when I was driving, not watching, just listening, tears welled in my eyes while at the same time I was telling myself that he did not write these words, was just saying them. But what a delivery he had.

1. The bullhorn thing was in no way spontaneous.
My sister was there (Red Cross)and they did several walkthroughs before going 'live'.

2. I guess I am not surprised to hear this
but at least it looked spontaneous, which is not something you can say about anything else he'd said or done.

5. That's because he was able to fall back on his cheerleading shtick
That is all he is really capable of.

And keep in mind we were all in a minor state of shock at the time.
