AAR just now. 2nd letter to Bush from Iran .....
Edited on Mon May-15-06 09:10 PM by Postman
Bill Scher from "liberal Oasis" on with Sam Seder has just talked about a 2nd letter that was sent to Bush. The letter was from Iran's' theocratic ruler Ayatollah Katami. It was sent the same day as Iran's' President Ahmedenijad's letter but hasn't been given the attention afforded the one sent by President Ahmedednijad.

Time magazine printed the letter- some of which stated that Iran is open to snap inspections and intrusive investigations of its nuclear facilities. That Iran holding a nuclear weapon would not be in their best interest because it would destabilize the region further along with their being some islamic laws prohibiting such weapons from being used/stockpiled etc., etc.

Bill Scher said that the Bush administration wanted people to focus on the 1st letter from Ahmadenejad. That they want people to think that Ahmednijad is the real face of Iran when in actuality power is shared in Iran with a theocratic ruling council, that Ahmednijad doesn't even have control over the Iranian military.

2nd letter-

2. It's not so much a letter as an informed op-ed;
not from Khatami, but from his rep. It's not addressed to anybody in particular, and while it has some suggestions, all of them are contingencies. Moreover, while it may reflect official thinking, it's also labeled with "In my personal judgment", providing deniability to any of the positions suggested as being attainable, with proper negotiations and concessions.

I assume that this is El-Baradei and US/EU negotiator-stuff, but Rohani figured Iran needed more good press.
