Joe Klein: that was probably the coolest presidential image
Klein's Mission Accomplished quote:

(JOE) KLEIN: Well, that was probably the coolest presidential image since Bill Pullman played the jet fighter pilot in the movie Independence Day. That was the first thing that came to mind for me. And it just shows you how high a mountain these Democrats are going to have to climb. You compare that image, which everybody across the world saw, with this debate last night where you have nine people on a stage and it doesn't air until 11:30 at night, up against Saturday Night Live, and you see what a major, major struggle the Democrats are going to have to try and beat a popular incumbent president.

Oh, I pretty sure the Democrats can surmount 29%!

Joe Klein: high on Bush!

3. that was about the most
sickening, stomach turning, recording of what was said by the THs. They should have to read it everyday to remind them how wrong they were.

4. Infotainment.
Klein and others have not been able to get away from the money making movie sets that are cable and network news. There is no difference between something that actually happens and something that did happen/might have happened in a Hollywood movie.

Such greed...

9. a talented journalist neatly sums up this little shitheeled midget
Edited on Mon May-15-06 09:48 PM by Gabi Hayes
People like Joe Klein are the reason America is a doomed society. The empires of old understood that war and killing were serious matters. They understood that the taking of human life requires grand, eternal motivations, of which there are many: conquest, self-defense, greed, glory. Killing for the sake of it also qualifies. Only Americans can imagine going to war to "burnish their resumes." What does that say about us?

please read the column, and if you liked it, try this, in which he nails sixty FOUR of the worst journalists covering the 04 campaign. long, but immensely, VICIOUSLY, entertaining

11. is there anybody more entertaining than he?
have you read his book about the campaign?

that's where I read Wimblehack, one of the best pieces of media criticism I've ever read, and I've read books full, from Mark Hertsgaard to Bob McChesney to Eric Alterman to Robert Parry to...well, nevermind

it has the added value of being extremely funny, and even more meanspirited, the latter characteristic being much deserved

poor Karen Tumulty

HA!

12. He's brilliant
Can't say I've read his book, but I've long admired his writings on the web. When major 'tude seems to be the entre and only requirement to be a columnist nowadays, Taibbi's brand of near reckless subversion makes him a man apart. He seems to be constitutionally unable to quit fucking with Republicans. In person. He's brave, he's clever, he's mean. I love him.

13. or other journalists, whom I loathe a lot more than the pugs
journalists make a choice to do what they do....or don't (like cover the myriad Bush depredations)

pugs are just pugs are just pugs

they are what they are and couldn't change if they wanted to. the ones that do were never really pugs to begin with. they just grew up; got less selfish

14. True
The glitterati we're expected to regard as "journalists" are worse scum than almost any pol. If doctors behaved the same way, we'd be living in a world of 12th century medicine, with the veneer and cost of modern care.

16. I believe I will
There's a Barnes and Noble a half-mile down the road, I'll probably be in there next weekend. And I just checked my local library's site, they have a copy of Spanking the Donkey available. Thanks for the recommend, I'm certain I'll enjoy them both.

I thought I'd seen all his NYPress columns. After he left, I used the site search and read through everything that got returned. Now I wonder if I've missed anything else. In any case, THANKS!
