What in Sam Hill is * up to?
Edited on Tue May-16-06 05:50 AM by althecat
OK lets just start out by assuming that he's going to, probably, be lying. Now, now, I'll admit that doesn't sound very 'bi partisan' of me to say that - but at this point I think you'd have to be a fool not to be at least 'very' suspicious of the motives behind everything George W Bush and his crew do.

So.. lets just assume right off the bat that when he says that his new initiatives are focused on the issue of immigration, and on finding 'a rational middle ground' , then, they undoubtedly have very little to do with immigration and are bound to be both totally irrational and extreme.

With that in mind here's some of the things that 'jump out at me' about this - I'll put links and quotes in later.

1. Ending of something he calls "catch and release" - which I take to mean that he's planning on initiating a program of 'catch and keep indefinitely'.

2. The fact that he mentions that they have 'expanded their facilities' to allow them to end this terrible 'catch and release' thing.

3. The contracts which apparently were awarded by homeland security to KBR aka Halliburton to build huge new internship style camps . Basically big camps with barracks and huge fences and stuff. http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?guid=%7B62C8724D%2DAE8A%2D4B5C%2D94C7%2D70171315C0A0%7D&dist=SignInArchivem=archive&siteid=mktw&dateid=38741%2E5136277662%2D858254656 - To be honest this has been worrying me significantly for quite a while.

3. The fact that the visa waiver form I signed on the way into this country had a newish clause I didn't recognise - something about my waiving my right to appeal against the judgements of the Visa officer.. which lead at the time to a discussion of whether an immigrant had ever had right to a trial in such situations, but, obviously not anymore. I'm not worried about this for myself, especially. Its just an interesting fact to put with the others.

4. All this talk of high technology such unmanned aerial vehicles and biometric identification cards.

5. The fact that he is planning to do a call out of the National Guard, in order to somehow effect this new immigration program. What exactly are they going to be doing, again?

6. The fact that even his loyal Republican crew in the house and senate are balking at that last measure.

7. The idea that, with a 29% approval rating he decides that, now is the time to initiate major initiatives on a hotly contested subject.

Where is he going with this? Exactly.

1. He is just pandering to his base....
He has very few arrows in the old quiver and he hopes this will distract from the "amnesty" part of the program...

Every thing he does is 100% aimed at '06.

4. Quite so...
And even if part of the plan is to pander the base.. there is too much detail in all of this for it to completely make sense....

8. Use immigration as an excuse for detention camps and national IDs
He mentioned adding beds to the facilities and nationalized biometric IDs. Just like he used 9/11 to nullify the Constitution, he's going to use immigration as the excuse for mass detentions and to further squelch our Bill of Rights.

They know his poll numbers are unfixable but they don't care about that anymore - he's the pResident. All they care about now is moving forward on destroying this country. Nothing has stopped them from colluding with Congress to get the things they want.

next up - the internet. I wouldn't be surprised if they accuse dissenting voices of pedophilia and hall them off to jail. Child molestors seems to be AG's favorite topic lately. I'm just sayin'

9. Ding, ding, ding (and all that)
Yes. This seems to be the mechanism to take away more human rights without a terrorist event. After 9-11, they gave us a fairly convincing reason (to many) to give up our freedoms. Another t-attack on US soil would damage the Neo-con's credibility. However, attacking the "enemy within" is an excellent way to take away a few more rights and get people used to societal controls that they would otherwise consider unthinkable: camps and biometric ID cards. After a few years of seeing this IDs at work, all that will be necessary to convince the general population to accept these cards is a small scare. Then they'll have the ability to track data on every American citizen and resident.

The "guest workers" will continue to provide cheap labor and the "illegals" will be able to prove their moral fiber by enlisting in our army as we move onto Iran and-- who knows? a neo-con can dream-- maybe even Syria.

What this means to me is that they have little concern over public opinion. (This may have something to do with the whole "the elections are rigged" thingee. You know, the end of democracy and whatnot. Tyranny. That thing.) Which means they plan on sticking around for awhile. Which means they plan on winning the midterms.

Hopefully, they're getting sloppy and we'll either sweep the midterms or we'll catch them in the act. Here's to dreaming.

He's going NOWHERE with this! It's all a bunch of bullshit. He may send a few NG to the border for "show", but that's about it. It's all talk. Every last bit of it. He's trying to placate his racist base. IOW.......HE'S LYING.....AGAIN!
