BBC interviews cab driver (believing he was a technology expert) LOL!!!
Edited on Tue May-16-06 10:02 AM by Mind_your_head
:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

<snip>
A computer expert has described his astonishment at seeing the BBC's 24-hour news channel interview supposed taxi driver Guy Goma in the mistaken belief it was him.

Guy Kewney - a white, bearded technology expert - was astonished to see himself appear on screen as a black man with an apparent French accent. He was even more shocked to see himself unable to answer basic questions about the legal battle between the Beatles' Apple Corps and Apple Computer over the use of an apple symbol.

On his website, the real Mr Kewney, said that the man "seemed as baffled as I felt" when asked about the consequences of the lawsuit live on BBC News 24.

Only when Ms Bowerman announced live on air the name and title of the man who should have been there and asked the first question did the driver realise there had been a mix-up.

There's a link to watch the video of the interview here:

1. Turns out he wasn't a cab driver, either...

he was applying for a job at the BBC in their data department.

They had meant to show Guy Kewney — an expert on internet music downloads. But they realised too late that they had put on Guy Goma, a Congolese man applying for a technology-related job.

<snip>

He and other media outlets originally reported that Goma was a cab driver — though the BBC later said the reports were inaccurate.

Producers apparently realised by the end of the interview that something had gone wrong — and, after they had gone off the air, asked their "expert" if there was a problem.

"He said: 'Well, it was OK, but I was a bit rushed'," Mr Kewney wrote on his blog.

Mr Goma told the BBC his interview was stressful, but added he was prepared to return to the airwaves.

2. Ah okay......didn't realize that
I loved the look on Goma's face when he was "introduced" (trying to decide if he should say something on air or not).

I think this is a funny *mostly harmless* incident - a nice distraction from the 'waiting for indictment' (or not) threads, if you know what I mean. :-)

Peace,
