AAR to start new show --State of Belief-- on Sundays....
From the Interfaith Alliance mailing I just received....

Dear member of The Interfaith Alliance,

The Interfaith Alliance Foundation is excited to announce the debut of a new weekly radio show on religion and politics, hosted by yours truly. State of Belief will debut on Air America Radio this Sunday, January 15, from 5 to 6 PM EST.

As a vital addition to the voice and reach of The Interfaith Alliance, State of Belief focuses on the positive and healing role that religion can play in America. State of Belief explains and explores that role by illustrating the vast diversity of beliefs in America, while exposing and critiquing both the political manipulation of religion, and the religious manipulation of government.

Through interviews with newsmakers and celebrities and field reports from around the country, State of Belief explores the intersection of religion with politics, culture, media, and activism. Each week, I will offer you, the listeners, critical analysis of the news of religion and politics, and seek to provide you with an increased appreciation of religious liberty.

State of Belief will talk about religion and politics in public in all the ways you're not supposed to. As you know, I firmly believe that religion and radical freedom are best friends. And that the Religious Right is wrong – wrong for America and bad for religion.

State of Belief

5:00 to 6:00 PM EST each Sunday

Air America Radio Network

This weekend's show will feature:

*
America's esteemed journalist, Walter Cronkite, discussing religion, politics and the state of broadcasting.
*
Diana Eck, of the Pluralism Project (Harvard University), offering commentary of the importance of recognizing and respecting America's great religious diversity.
*
And, as you will hear every week, voices of activists across the nation, working at the intersection of religion and politics, will be featured.

5. Dr. Welton Gaddy, who was a guest on Franken's show Tuesday:
Dr. Welton Gaddy, the head of the Interfaith Alliance, a non-profit started to "promote democratic values, defend religious liberty, challenge hatred and religious bigotry and reinvigorate informed civic participation." Dr. Gaddy is also the new host of "State of Belief" on Air America Radio.

6. I think it's Dr C. Weldon Gaddy.
He's the president of the Interfaith Alliance.

3. Who is the Yours Truly? I read the post twice, and I can't find a name.
I know I listen to Bernie Ward each Sunday AM on his show called God Talk, which is similar to this one, except he doesn't have very many guests.

It's really a great show and Bernie doesn't pull any punches.

7. Excellent move...
pluralistic and tolerant religious views need to be heard--to steal the thunder of the fundie bigots. Progressive talk host Bernie Ward does a highly successful show called "God Talk" on Saturday night/Sunday morning on KGO San Francisco. SG

9. Rev. Graddy was on Al Franken yesterday, and they
had a really interesting conversation on religion and politics. If this is what the program will be like, it will be a good one.
