E&P: Condi picks top-10 music faves for Bono's guest-edited newspaper
'Acid' Queen? Condoleezza Rice Picks Her Ten Top Musical Favorites -- for Bono's Newspaper
By E&P Staff
Published: May 15, 2006
NEW YORK

Bono promised, and delivered, a list and description of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's ten musical favorites for the Tuesday edition of the London daily The Independent that he has guest-edited. Rice revealed herself as a huge fan of "acid rock."

A staffer interviewed her to explain her choices. A classical pianist, she picked Brahms but also Aretha, Kool and the Gang, and yes, U2 -- all of their work, no less.

Here are her picks and some of her comments.

***

1. Mozart
Piano Concerto in D minor

"I won my first piano competition at the age of 15, playing this work."

2. Cream
'Sunshine of Your Love'

"I love to work out to this song," says Rice. "Believe it or not, I loved acid rock in college - and I still do."

3. Aretha Franklin
'Respect'...

1. Incredibly unimaginative picks for a musician.
But perfectly understandable for a Republican.

3. Oh Brother!
And how about her top 10 NYC stores for shoe-shopping???

Using humor as an attempt to counter the bile rising in my throat, I re-post this funny CR assortment---"New Looks For Condi"---posted last year by some wonderfully creative Lefty, something for each of her many moods.

4. As a music aficionado,
I HATE when they ask politicians of either side of the aisle about their music tastes, because it always looks like a list of milktoast, safe favorites that the youngest aide at hand with a Columbia House brochure picked out. How would the press react if John Edwards said he loved the MC5? Or if Condi had listed a Public Enemy song? What if John Kerry's favorite frontman weren't Bono, but Bob Pollard? Nothing to really focus on too hardly, but this isn't exactly a pressing issue, either.

11. There was an old story about Dick Clark giving an interview
at his home, and he had to have a crew bring in record albums as a backdrop because he didn't have a record collection.

He likes U2 alot but he's actually a bit grittier than people think.

Me - Sure, I like Bruce and Lennon, but I adore Mark Eitzel and anything by the Minutemen.
