Impeaching Bush AND Cheney: Doing Our Homework, Persuading the Persuadable
With senior GOP analysts now anticipating a 30-seat loss in the House, impeachment is starting to look like a "when" and not an "if" -- particularly with Bush in the 20s and Cheney toying with the teens. On this, impeachment advocate John Conyers' 77th birthday, I propose that we dedicate ourselves to working actively for Bush's AND Cheney's impeachment, conviction, and removal from office no later than Conyers' 79th birthday: May 15, 2008.

For both Nixon and Clinton, the timeline from initial investigations to final resolutions took between a year and a year and a half, so we want to get that clock ticking on BushCo ASAP. If the Dem's do indeed re-take the House in November, congressional investigations could begin shortly after the 110th Congress takes office in January. The process could then culminate in a Senate verdict early in 2008.

But unless Bush's approval ratings slide into the teens in the next few months -- which could happen, in which case "moderate" Republicans will start calling for impeachment -- we've got some time on our hands. I propose we use it to prepare and pursue an informal, knowledge-based grassroots campaign to sell persuadables (which, at this point, is most of America) on impeachment.

Now's the time to develop the national, grassroots intellectual infrastructure necessary to fuel and sustain impeachment proceedings. There's a wealth of high-quality material exploring the whys, wherefores, and mechanics of impeaching both Bush and Cheney. Let us partake! I intend to invest as much of my time as possible reading and passing that information on to others. I hope I can persuade you to consider doing something similar.

To helps simplify the process, I've collected quite a number of leading impeachment resources (links and books) and posted then in a compact format (one screen ... no scrolling).

If we all put our minds to it and do our impeachment homework, maybe we really can further the cause of sending these jackals packing. Regardless the odds, we have no decent choice but to try. Please have a look at those links and books and think about making judicious use of them to reach those not already supporting impeachment.

1. Shutting the country down for another impeachment and trial
might not be the only way to do this.

Consider that Cheney is also under suspicion in the Plame case, that whether or not Leopold's story is accurate, Rove is only being charged with perjury and obstruction, meaning the main player will be charged later, and that will probably mean Cheney, at least.

Consider what slowly isolating Stupid, stripping him of his cronies within the White House, blockading him in Congress, and generally neutering him will do over the next 2 years.

That might serve us at least as well as an impeachment would.

2. That's a Really Important Point
The goal is not impeachment per se, but terminating BushCo. As you suggest it would be far, far better if that could be accomplished through other means. Another impeachment would again be all-consuming, dangerously distracting, and destructive. It's unfortunate that it's even got to part of the mix, but I don't suppose Darth and Mini-me will have the good manners to resign on their own unless it is.

Make him the first president that has to pardon every member of his administration.

You expose them for what they are and make sure the History books show that this is the WORST administration to ever soil D.C.

Impeachment will only blow up in the face of the Dems and might result in President McCain...
:scared:
