The U.S. Coast Guard is searching an area between Cape Canaveral, Fla., and the Bahamas for a 21-year-old man who mysteriously vanished from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, Local 6 News has learned.

Daniel DiPiero.

Officials said Daniel DiPiero of Ohio was last seen Monday on board the Mariner of the Seas ship.

DiPiero told travel companions that he was going to his room to go to bed.

The following day, when it was discovered that he did not sleep in his cabin, authorities were notified, Local 6 reporter Donald Forbes said.

Well, cnn will have something to talk about every hour for the next 6 months.

Hoping the guy is ok though.

3. Plastered, fell overboard?
It's been known to happen before.

I remember it happening to one guy, took him a couple of days to swim to shore on (I think) Jamaica.

Sounds like an awful, lonely way to go.

4. I had heard that if the ship is moving,
and someone falls overboard, they are sucked under the ship into the engines. Pretty gruesome if accurate. :scared:

5. He's not blond so the networks won't care
:sarcasm:

On a serious note, I do hope that he is found. His parents must be worried sick.

9. crime cover
a friend who used to take a lot of cruises says that there are some murderers and rapists who ply their trade by taking cruises. These predators have a ready means of getting rid of the "evidence" of their crimes. They just throw their victims overboard.

I never thought about this before, and it may be an urban legend, but it has enough of a ring to it that I would really think twice about taking a cruise. And if I did take a cruise, I would be very vigilant about my own personal safety.
