How Many of You Just Have a Cell Phone now? no other phone
It costs a lot to keep 2 phones. I'm thinking of just getting rid of my landline and keeping my cell phone.

Amyone else tried this. I'm curious to see how it works for you.

1. it works fine
the only issue that I have is that I hate my cell phone company and I sometimes lose my signal even when I'm not moving around

2. I did this a few months ago.
Since we were saving to buy a house, we finally figured out how ridiculous it was that we were paying for two phones. No problems so far.

and still has her landline. She said it's fine as long as she keeps track of her monthly minutes usage.

12. That is what I did. I just use my cell for long distance because
I pay for way more minutes than I ever use. I think I have 5,000 minutes available to me right now. The AT&T people got really snippy with me when I had my long distance dropped. I'll bet a lot of people are doing that now.

I have kept my home phone just because my mother is in a nursing home and it would confuse her if she had to use a new number.

7. Just cellphones for us
We have one, and we got one that you buy a card every 2 months for $30. We were paying nearly $30 a month for our land line. My husband chose Net 10 because all calls are ten cents a minute. We don't call that many people, so this was economical for us. I wouldn't sign a contract with a cell phone company, though.

8. Cell phone only
for a year and a half. No telemarketing calls -- which I was still getting even after joining the "Do Not Call" list. When the phone rings I know it's for me. But my carrier is way too expensive and I'm gonna have to switch. Apart from the $ thing, I don't miss a landline at all.

11. I have had only a cell phone for about 2 years.
It only sucks when I forget where I put it, and have to go to a pay phone to call myself to find it!LOL!

I prefer it anyway. I only have to give out one number. I don't get telemarketing calls (so far, anyway), no one has to call two different numbers to find me. and I only have one bill to pay.

15. My wife and I have a cell phone apiece
It doesn't cost us anything to call one another, we have national long distance on a shared plan, and automatic caller ID and voice mail. If her phone rings, (she has Ozzy's "Crazy Train" as a ring tone) it's for her. If Zeppelin's "Kashmir" starts up, it's for me.

Works great.

No need for a land-line at all.

16. I tried that for a brief period
and quickly realized that cell phones simply suck. Most importantly the quality of the communication was so bad it was insulting. I couldn't justify paying for a service that works just a little over half of the time.

I'll give cell phones another look when they fix the basic problems.

And my cell phone is sprint...thinking of changing that too...Is QWest doing cell phones? I know Working Assets offers phone service, but they then subcontract through Sprint....Anyway, maybe its time to buy cash only pre-paid cellphones. I have nothing to hide, but I am so disgusted at what is going on, I feel its important to do it just based on principle!

when I use to have a cell phone I hated it. People are so insecure they thought I would lie about having it turned off. Sad thing was my cell didn't have caller id so it wasn't like I was screening calls. Fuck it...got rid of it. I DO have a pre-paid cell for emergencies.

23. Me - Don't miss the land line at all
I would have dumped the land line a long time ago, but we lived in a dead zone with a hill between us and the nearest cell towers. When buying our new home, we checked the signal at every prospective home.

The monthly savings from not having the extra line is a big plus.

27. If you have the cell phone and know it works, go for it.
I've never had a land line in the 5 years since I graduated even though I have moved 4 times. The only problem I had was one apartment where the signal didn't come in good. I was locked into a two year contract at the time.

I can see having a land line if you have kids, but if everyone living at the house has a cell phone and at least one of them works at home its just wasted money.

But in order to get NFL Sunday I was told by Directv that they will need a phone line hooked into the receiver and that it would be monitered and if they detected a unhook of the phone line, they would cancel the NFL package and NOT refund the money.

All other services, a landline not needed.

57. You can call 9-11 with a cell phone
but the dispatch center will not see the address from which the call originates because no caller id.

This would be important if someone was incapacitated and could only dial 9-11.

With a cell, you would have to have someone able to give the address.
