Saudi Arabia Bans Pictures of Women
Edited on Tue May-16-06 02:44 PM by ECH1969
King Abdullah has told Saudi editors to stop publishing pictures of women as they could make young men go astray, newspapers reported Tuesday.

The king told editors on Monday night that publishing a woman's picture for the world to see was inappropriate.

"One must think, do they want their daughter, their sister, or their wife to appear in this way. Of course, no one would accept this," the newspaper Okaz quoted Abdullah as saying.

"The youth are driven by emotion ... and sometimes they can be lead astray.

1. Yup! Condi in her boots drives Saudi men wild w/desire!
Seriously, what a step backward for Saudi women. The supreme hypocrisy of this is that the hundreds of Saudi royal princes have absolutely no problem mingling with westerners in most other countries of the world, at various posh resorts, where they drink, smoke, gamble and womanize with women dressed in the latest styles, including bikinis and other revealing clothes. Then they return to the middle east and become "more Catholic than the Pope" - muslim style.

3. this is also insulting to Saudi men...
when their king and clergy treat them like they're sex-starved testosterone-raging barbarians who can only be controlled by hiding the females.
:wtf:

6. and even if they are sex-starved testosterone-raging barbarians...
..what's wrong with that? why shouldn't saudi men have the freedom to be like men from everywhere else in the world?

religious fundies should stay at home and leave the rest of us alone. they sure as hell shouldn't be running a government.

4. Are Saudi men that weak? ...although, even in the US
there was a time when a woman showing a wrist or ankle was considered a harlot..

Perhaps this hyper-modesty is covering up another problem.. Young men (other than the royals) might be too poor to be considered "marriage material", and with most of the young women being held as virtual prisoners by their families, maybe the government thinks...out-of-sight-out-of-mind..

Reading this article made me think of how the "elders" of that wacky polygamy sect "cast out" the young boys and men because the old geezers wanted all the young women for themselves :puke:

7. I wonder what Laura thinks.
You know she's a self described feminist and has already fought real hard for women's rights in Afghanistan and Iraq. I bet she puts the King in his place real soon over this kind of crap. She is somethin'. :sarcasm:
