It Was Rough But I Found Some things About Bush I Support(ed). |
|
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 03:05 PM by DistressedAmerican
Got into a discussion at liberalunderground and was asked to come up with 5 things about Bush I supported. Here's what I have.
How about you? Dig deep!
=======================================================
I usually only openly credit him with one action that I really supported. But there are more. I will list them. But, they are almost all with qualifications:
1) I very much supported his choosing Colin Powell as Sec of state (too bad he never listened to any of his best advice)
2) I definitely supported the notion of the "War on Terror" when it applied mainly to going after Al Qaeda and its affiliated groups and the states that directly supported them if needed (I still do not believe that enough troops or resources were or are being applied in this area)
3) I absolutely supported the toppeling of the Taliban as a military goal and thought it needed to be done (however, I believe we have failed to consolidate that victory in the country not to mention in reconstruction)
4) I strongly supported the goals that he set forth in his Katrina reconstruction speech. (hopefully, he makes good on them)
5) I also support all efforts that have been made to begin reconstuction and revitilazation of the site of ground zero and the surrounding parts of lower Manhattan (this is still moving slowly. But, as far as I know, due in no part to the prez)
I will add that I was one of the few DUers that did and continues to support his stated goal of going to mars and expanding space exploration. Red planet here we come!

I believe that his positions on issues is dangerous and for the most cases unconstitutional.

6. you are joking, right? you forgot to turn on the sarcasm icon? because |
|
you cannot possibly be serious about ANY of those 5 points.
1) do you happen to remember that colin powell was instrumental in the MyLai coverup, and sat at the UN and LIED through his teeth, nothing but an administration hack.
2) a war on a NOUN? don't forget that al-qaeda is basically a CIA construct, and you don't eliminate terrorists without eliminating the conditions that created them.
3) if you think the taliban are gone, you obviously haven't been paying attention.
4) do you see anything happening in the katrina reconstruction? if so, please enlighten us--because nobody else does.
5) you do know, of course, that the site of WTC used to be owned by the port authority of new york, and has now been privatized?
I favour HIM going to mars, along with every single lying, corrupt member of his administration, and each and every person who blindly supports him.

7. His "expansion" of the space program comes at the expense of astronomy |
|
Apparently, going to Mars is more important to bush and his no-bid contractor buddies than maintaining the Hubble space telescope. I can't get behind that, sorry.
As to the rest, 1) Powell is an accomplished liar, and as SoS his primary responsibility was to provide cover for what would otherwise have been transparently moronic propositions
2) The notion of "War on Something Other Than a Sovereign State" is bankrupt no matter who calls for it or what that something is
3) The Taliban remain very much a force to be reckoned with in Afghanistan. Lack of follow-through there was a direct consequence of bush's idiotic obsession with invading Iraq
4) Just because he says something doesn't mean jack shit in terms of what will actually happen, and raising false hope is
5) As it's bush's direct responsibility to make every effort to clean up a mess he created through his own negligence, I will not absolve him of responsibility for this fiasco especially after shamelessly USING the city as a stage set in the 2004 campaign

13. Bush tells you want you want to hear and then goes home, |
|
1) Colin Powell - ditto what you said and what a shame he ruined his good name as a result; 2)Al-Quaeda relocated to Iraq and is stronger than ever; 3) Taliban - on the rise again because we diverted resources to Iraq; 4) New Orleans - 5 months later and the surface has barely been scratched to repair hurricane damage; 5) the Bush part of rebuilding Manhattan involved sending 9/11 reconstruction funds to Dunkin Donuts in Washington state. But, I commend you for trying. The only good thing I can say about him is that he has cute dogs.
