Alito vote - its NOT OVER for goodness sakes. Why do you give up so easy? |
|
The media of course and Republicans are trying to sway and pressure all of us to accept their bullying, as well as their nominee.
Is that what you are going to do?
Just accept that they say its over? Of course its not over. The vote is a week away. Now is the time to call your friends, call the senators and KEEP EXPLAINING OVER AND OVER WHY this man SHOULD NOT SIT ON the bench of the Supreme Court.
If you give up this easy, you'll never beat them.
Keep fighting.
The number for the Capitol (888)818-6641.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x122095The Senate Dems are listed in the OP and Republicans are listed in the first reply. And why stop with the moderates. A rush of Dems urging a no vote may make the RW ones worry about their seats, now that Bush's numbers are so bad.

23. Here's a link to all Senator's emails and phone numbers too! |
|
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfmIt's the general government website for the Senate. You can indicate your state and email your Senators directly from their own site (this info courtesy of bettyellen, in the DU Activist forum).

|
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 03:31 PM by Mountainman
we don't have enough votes to stop it, but let's hang on to our allusions as long as we can.
I turn on liberal talk radio for the last few days and all I hear is how bad Alito is. We all know that, shut up and take your medicine America! There will never be another liberal age until we run the course of the conservative revolution. When Americans all begin to understand what we understand then there will be change. It will take the Supreme Court taking away what they cherished for so long before most people wake the fuck up.
In a bunch of threads the Nader supporters won't admit that they had a roll in this. What do you expect from a country with it's head up it's ass?

promoting this horrendous agenda, and Alito is another proverbial nail in the coffin.
We have a week to continue to mobilize, get the word out, and build our voices with Moderate Republicans who are as opposed to this nomination as we are.
Conservative Revolution you say? I would call it a Neocon Revolution. THERE WON'T BE A PLANET IF THERE IS A NEO CONSERVATIVE REVOLUTION. Nothing will be left at the rate they are going.
You want to close shop, be my guest, perhaps its really your desire for that to happen. However, it's your loss and your future you're allowing to be jeopardized.

21. don't know about nader but |
|
everything else you said I agree with. Until people are hurting financially and psychologically everywhere, we will not experience change. I personally am not that upset about Alito as much as I am that we might bomb Iran. And lose both house and senate in 06. And all of that depends on the voting machine integrity<---I think we should save our energy for that single issue or all else is moot.

Thanks, shance. You're right. But good grief, look at what we're up against. Still, we can't give-up.
Copying that number down right now. It's time to do some serious gabbing w/neighbors, friend and family "and" calling.

I think if we all take one action at a time, talk each other through it, and keep moving forward, we will undoubtedly win. It's going to take a while.
We just have to keep doing what works, which I believe means NEVER being quiet about the injustices happening, like this Alito nomination. Its a joke. He may be a great guy, and he might even be a great chess player, but what does that have to do with being a fairminded justice on the Supreme Court.

16. He also said this just recently on Face the Nation: |
|
"I beieve that presidential power will be very, very important" during this week's hearings, he said. "You have what appears to be a conflict between the president;s claim of executive war powers to eavesdrop without a warrant, a conflict with what Congress has done on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. And I think it is a fair inquiry, and I intend to press the question with Judge Alito as to how he would approch these issues on a jurisprudential base."

14. And Tell Them Not to Feel Sorry... |
|
...for Alito's wife. I have cried plenty of times over what direction this country is going in, & no one felt sorry for me. And anyway, Mr. Alito is a public figure. If his wife can't handle the way public figures are treated, then she is married to the wrong person.
