What's the point with "English as a National Language"? |
|
I don't get it. It's always been our unofficial national language; what, are we afraid the mean brown people will hold us at gunpoint and force us to speak Spanish?

The point is to get as many Democratic Senators and Congressmen to vote against it, so they can bring that up in the midterm elections.
"Joe Rethug wants to get our country on the right track, but it's Senators like Phil Democrat who want to destroy our country. Phil Democrat doesn't even want your children to speak English! Vote Joe Rethug, he shares our values, and will keep our children and their children speaking English."

for people to intimidate and suppress other cultures here-I'm thinking of my Choctaw friends who were punished if they spoke their native language.
It seems to me that the Native language should be either Choctaw, Algonquin, or Lakota, btw.

6. Another example of Republicans fiddling while our country colapses. |

They need to quit passing laws that don't need to be passed.

to make sure Americans, most of whom are too stupid and arrogant to learn a second language, don't feel bad about their xenophobia and racism. Pandering to the ignoranti is always a sure bet in this country.

just like Bush calling for a (already constitutionally illegal) line-item veto . . .
Legislation designed to have absolutely no effect other than a rallying cry for Repukes . . .

13. Ever been to Canada? Everything that is printed: signs, soda |

cans, every single written thing has to be in English and French. If you create something, you have to pay a translator to put it in the other language. I am all for encouraging everyone in the USA, especially the children to learn Spanish (Yo lo hablo). But we shouldn't have to go to the expense to have everything in Spanish as well as English. I believe in bi-lingual classes in elementary school for the hispanic children to ease their way into English, but please.
