Rep. Tom Delay Threatens Media Running Ads Linking him to corruption
HOUSTON – Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, is threatening to “sue any station” that runs a new television ad that links him to one of the worst congressional corruption scandals ever. The two public interest groups that joined forces this week to run the ads are vigorously fighting back.

The groups, the Campaign for America’s Future and the Public Campaign Action Fund, unveiled $115,000 in new television, radio and billboard ads targeting Rep. DeLay and Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, for their ties to corruption on a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, kicking off a yearlong campaign to clean up Congress.

KHOU-CBS, one of the stations originally scheduled to run the spot, said that Rep. DeLay “threatened to sue any station” that chooses to broadcast the ad, on in its morning news program.

Campaign for America’s Future co-director Roger Hickey said Rep. DeLay, known as “the Hammer” in Congress, is trying to intimidate Houston television stations in a pointless effort to prevent public discussion.

I heard channel 13 yesterday say they were not going to run these ads.

4. Amazing
He's lost his job as Majority Leader.

He's under indictment.

His lack of poularity in his own district guarantees that this will be his last term, no matter what.

And yet, he still has the power to threaten media outlets and they quiver before him.

Man, that's power.

6. Do you suppose
we could play this in a way that the threat of a lawsuit just drums up interest in the ads?

8. BINGO. This is what needs to happen.
It is *JUST* why the Swift Liars got such widespread attention.

Realize, their first ad buy was relatively small and local. But because the ads were so outrageous, they got attention from the corporate news, who played the ads -- in whole -- ad nauseum.

We need to do the same thing here. Of course, we don't even need to lie like they did!

9. Here is some more information at
http://www.bradblog.com/

Well, we weren't going to run it at all, but now that DeLay is threatening to sue anybody who does, we guess we just can't help ourselves!

Campaign for America's Future launched a radio and tv ad campaign against the corrupt, indicted former House Majority Leader Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) and the corrupt, soon-to-be-indicted Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) yesterday.

Click here to check out both the 30-second DeLay video spot and the 60-second Ney audio spot.

For good measure, here's a graphic of the billboard now running above the east bound lanes of Rte. I-70 at exit 126 in Ney's home district back in Ohio.

10. Four TV stations in Houston refuse to air them!
Four TV stations in Houston refuse to air them

The four Houston television stations that sold airtime for a commercial criticizing U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay refused to air it Wednesday after objections from a DeLay lawyer, but the ad was accessible on cable channels and the Internet.

The stations offered little or no rationale for their decisions, nor would they comment on whether the letter from DeLay campaign lawyer Don McGahn influenced them.

KTRK (Channel 13) decided Tuesday to withhold the ad. KPRC (Channel 2), KHOU (Channel 11) and KRIV (Channel 26), which provide local news programming, decided Wednesday against starting the commercials that day.

11. Pathetic though they often are, the media will outlast Tom DeLay
and so will the cockroaches he strove to eliminate from Texas burbs in his earlier life.
