The Immigration Debate
Will the Dems took the bone again. Bush threw out the “Guest Worker” program followed quickly by the “Amnesty” word and the debate was FRAMED

We failed to reason

Mexican workers in Mexico are suffering from generations of oppression. The majority of Mexican nationals only recently gained the legal right to own property. Organizing Unions still typically results in death. Land Barons in Chiapas still impede the children of the workers to attend school.

American workers, some still clinging to the last remaining manufacturing jobs, others displaced by corporate out-sourcing, feeling the stress of making ends meet, greet the new job seekers with contempt

This debate needs to be about how the Republicans with their Multinational Corp. interest has driven the economic bar down – for USA and Mexico. The buying power of 1 income in 1970 has the buying power of 2 incomes in 2004.

Corporate farms lobby Washington for crop subsidies that compete with poor farmers in Mexico and Africa

Republican controlled Washington has failed to prosecute 130,000 employers who knowingly hire illegal workers

The Federal Government sets ideally by as hospital emergency rooms close down in border states, over burdened by immigrant workers with no health coverage and no where else to go.

We missed it.

This is not about the “Brown Horde to the South”, this is about the culture of corruption and fiscal irresponsibility perpetuated by the Republicans. Oh sure we have a booming economy fueled on the backs of exploited workers fearing deportation. It has as much credibility as Bush’s deficit spending in times of his tax cuts

1. I agree with much of what you say
So do you think if the Dems take back the House and Senate in 2006 we can come up with some rational plans to deal with these issues?

I'm just a little worried that some of them are also a little too deep in the pockets of various corporate interests.

Honestly, I don't know what the answer is, but I think this is a thoughtful assessment in many respects.

2. Perhaps the Repubs will enact the current bill
I thought there was a chance they would stall its passage to allow more "press time" for the issue but they may also see it as their last chance to push it through also.

Currently the bill allows for levels of immigration most Americans would not support. Projected levels of 200 million (high est.) to 100 million (low est.) over the next 25 years. Actually the polling data Pew Research said most American favored lowering immigration levels.

So we don't increase, which the Republicans want for an endless supply of cheap labor, address the needs of those that are here already, and lay the blame squarely on the person most responsible - the employers and corporate greed.

Address the issues of corporate greed as the precursers to gaining control of our borders. Put NAFTA and Most Favored Nation Trading status subject to Human rights and workers Rights conditions. Impose tariffs on countries who use slave labor working conditions.
