How many do you need? We had to get almost 5000 in this area once to get someone on the ballot, and it was like pulling teeth. We had neighbors turn us down because they did not want a Democrat on the ballot at all. We got them though. More than we needed.

13. I believe the campaign is looking for 40,000 sigs -- we would

have needed 15,000 to get on the ballot. It is a very well organized campaign with very dedicated people -- both volunteers and staff. I went to the Old State House when he announced his run and there was an electricity in the air that made me very hopeful. I have a very good feeling about this.

37. I was there too. Thanks to DU, I read about Ned and met him in mid-January

He's a wonderful guy. Smart with a heart.

He didn't back down when the party establishment tried to dissuade him from running.

He listens extremely well.

He says what he believes.

I'm thrilled he's on the ballot but not at all surprised. I emailed him a memo in mid-January saying he could and would win if he ran. It will happen.

Ned's a great new leader for our party.

40. Petitioning is campaigning

Lamont has a legion of committed volunteers. I think Lieberman has alot of paid staffers but nowhere near the number of committed volunteers. Going door to door is what volunteers do best. There is no better way to turn an uninformed Lieberman supporter into a Lamont supporter than going one on one with somebody with the facts to dispute the misleading commercials. There's also an outside chance that a huge number of signatures will force Lieberman to declare as an independent. In my going door to door, I haven't found one Lieberman supporter yet--many people not home but I think that I'll just start leaving literature with a note on my next go 'round.

Matt Stoller at MyDD is reporting that Ned Lamont made the ballot - with 33 percent of delegates casting their votes for him. The final count: 492 out of 1,502 went to Lamont (currently, any changes are being asked for, so this count could change slightly). Lamont only needed 15 percent to avoid the need to collect signatures - he got more than twice needed.

Ned Lamont is CRUSHING Joe Lieberman. Lieberman's expensive tent and lavish support and paid armies of staffers weren't enough. His side is incredibly dejected - their crowd of thunderstick cheerers, who cheered whenever a town went lopsided for Joe, have disbanded and are chatting. The Lieberman supporters aren't even dejected, they are bored.

Lieberman has $5 million of a smear and slime campaign coming. This is a big win. Time to saddle up.

Democracy for America, started by Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean, has also thrown its support Lamont's way.

Dean's brother now runs the group and has endorsed Lamont while calling for change.

"Either Ned Lamont will be senator or Senator Lieberman will become a better Democratic senator," Dean said.

In EVERY case, "Barriers to Trade" and "Restrictions on Corporations" were created to protect something valuable!

The Democratic Party is a BIG TENT, but there is NO ROOM for those
who advance the agenda of THE RICH (Corporate Owners) at the EXPENSE of LABOR and the POOR.

Mainstream polls consistently find that big majorities of Americans are not meek centrists, but overt, tub-thumping, FDR progressives who are seeking far more populist gumption and governmental action than any Democratic congressional leader or presidential contender has dared to imagine.
In recent polls by the Pew Research Group, the Opinion Research Corporation, the Wall Street Journal, and CBS News, the American majority has made clear how it feels.
Look at how the majority feels about some of the issues that you'd think would be gospel to a real Democratic party:

1. 65 percent say the government should guarantee health insurance for everyone -- even if it means raising taxes.

2. 86 percent favor raising the minimum wage (including 79 percent of selfdescribed "social conservatives").

3. 60 percent favor repealing either all of Bush's tax cuts or at least those cuts that went to the rich.

4. 66 percent would reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

5. 77 percent believe the country should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment.

6. 87 percent think big oil corporations are gouging consumers, and 80 percent (including 76 percent of Republicans) would support a windfall profits tax on the oil giants if the revenues went for more research on alternative fuels.

7. 69 percent agree that corporate offshoring of jobs is bad for the U.S. economy (78 percent of "disaffected" voters think this), and only 22% believe offshoring is good because "it keeps costs down."

8. Over 65% of all Americans believe that the Invasion of Iraq was a mistake.

Now both candidates will be on the primary ballot. The winner of that primary will be on the ballot facing the repub in Nov.

The dems in CT have 2 ways to get there- they must either receive at least 15% of the delegate count at this convention, or collect several thousand sigs on a petition. Ned is doing both, but this showing within the community of inside party types is a real boon to his campaign.
