7 Things I Believe. Am I Still An American?
1. Illegal immigration is NOT "the most important issue of our time." It was nothing 6 months ago,
and it will be nothing 4 months after the election. Illegal immigration is a non-issue that's being
trumped up by the RW for political reasons.

2. Jesus never existed. His life is a reworking of earlier myths like Mithras. Therefore, there is no
controversy over truth/fiction of The DaVinci Code because neither it or the life of Jesus is based on historic fact. Get
over it. The only truth in the whole debate is that the lie of Jesus' existence never enters the discussion
in the first place.

3. George W Bush was a disaster before he was elected. He was a disaster after 9/11. His statement that "you're
either with us or against us" was one of the most destructive things ever uttered by a world leader at any time
in history.

4. Most Americans aren't stupid, they're just self-centered.

5. Moderate Democrats will kill our party long before the radical RWers get a chance.

6. France outstrips the USA in culture in every aspect except pop music. They know it. We know it. The world knows it.

7. Russ Feingold is the best example of a true Dem that we have right now. Others come close, but Feingold is the
real deal and he's not afraid to let the whole world know where he stands. I'd vote for him for pres in a heartbeat.

:)

5. Same with me - and I was a REPUBLICAN
two years ago, so I know I am NOT a Republican, but I know that I AM a Republican.

4. Yes and about France
They are starting to come down on immigration too. It's not easy to become a French citizen at all. In fact, it might be more difficult there.

And I totally agree with you about the pop music thing. :)

18. I have a feeling it's more difficult there
It certainly is in the UK, where I lived for four years. Still didn't even get the equivalent of a green card. Long story. Immigrating to Europe is HARD. Especially if you're from another Western country.

Re-think it.

10. Agreed. Nobody is questioning your choice of beliefs
but in telling others to "get over it" you are questioning the beliefs of others.

14. Perhaps "diatribe" is a strong word for me to have used.
But, the post reminds me of a technique that someone like Bill O'Reilly might use. To state some obvious facts that most people would agree with. Then slip in some point to which if you don't agree you would be considered out of the mainstream. Or, another way of looking at it, since the six points are so obvious, you must agree with my seventh.

My rationale is that by making such a ludicrous statement against Jesus, it undermines any valid points that might have been made in the rest of the post. Obviously, I feel strongly about disagreeing with that statement.

16. and yet your own judgment is okay? "ludicrous statement" for example.
has there ever been any DOCUMENTED proof of the existence of this person? especially in view of the fact that his "story" is almost identical to that of mithras, for example, and all the other vegetation/year kings.

nice try.

13. Yes.
Except for number 2. A man called Jesus (or later called Jesus) probably did exist. But myth is correct.

21. I am pretty much in agreement
with your beliefs as well. I might argue a little about who I think is also a true Democrat, but that's personal preference. :)

The one thing I would add to your list is that the world also knows what a fuckup GWB is, even if they have to be diplomatic and pretend they don't.
