We're you aware that there are homeless people in the U.S.? |
|
It's kind of easy to forget, since there's near silence on this matter in both the media and places like DU.
Given that we're the wealthiest nation in human history, it stands to reason that we have the resources available to tackle this issue. When the Democrats take back control of the government, what would you like to see them to do about homelessness (or domestic poverty in general)?

2. There are no homeless people in my town. But 6 1/2 miles across |
|
the Bay is the Homeless Capital of the World (San Francisco).
I honestly doubt there is a solution close at hand. It will take generations to make any impact on this regretful problem.
The homeless situation is just as mercurial as prison recidivism. There are so many factors to consider. It's like trying to sweep up mayonnaise.

But what's a start?
What have other civilizations done?
I don't know either.

6. San Francisco gives them $400 a month. |
|
And that, in large part, has caused the concentration of homeless here.

Especially since )*( took power. Would you feel happier if I blogged my volunteer time and patted myself on the back on these boards every time I did something to help?

My biggest fears after I became a widow, was that living paycheck to paycheck, I could end up a "bag lady"!! There , but for the Grace of God go many of us who are retired and living on Soc. Sec. This whole mess started (in my opinion) when Newt Gingrich started his shit with the "promise to America" to balance the budget on the backs of the welfare mothers and their hungry children!! Where were the good :sarcasm: Conservative Christians then. When they closed down the mental health hospitals and threw everyone out in the street to "mainstream" them was the stupidest thing( in my opinion) they could have done. Are we going to go back to the breadlines of the 30's before FDR dared take a chance to help poor Americans? That my dear posters is what our country is lacking now, REAL COMPASSION from our leaders, not the phony crap they are peddling now!! If my taxes have to be raised (and I'm poor) to help this happen, so be it, because "we are our brothers keepers!!!" DC
