The demonstrators arrived about an hour before the first lady. They were there to let her know she was definitely not on their guest list. The protested a potpourri of Bush policies including the war in Iraq, tax cuts, immigration reform, domestic spying and Israel's presence in Palestine-- and it was all for the first lady's benefit.
"And she's still advocating that Vermonters and the children of parents from the other states go to this war. But I notice she didn't send her own daughters," said protester Jim Leas of South Burlington.
"They're secretive. And they're arrogant. And they don't admit anything. And it's like we have no choice except to picket," said Carol Ferland of Middlebury.
Suzi Higley of Jeffersonville was one of many protesters who said they want Bush to be removed from office, "I am behind impeaching Bush and his administration 100%."
