WE ARE THE VERY MODELS OF THE MODERN-TIMES REPUBLICANS
WE ARE THE VERY MODELS OF THE MODERN-TIMES REPUBLICANS

I'm Bush, the very model of a modern-times Republican.
The demagogic depths I plumb and naturally will plumb again!
I'm proud of all My forebears although naming them's unseemly --
Dick Nixon, Joe McCarthy, and Benito Mussolini.
I'm very well acquainted, too, with God above on highest
Who tells Me fundamentally that scientists are biased--
When scientific studies show My corp'rate donors liable
I cut and paste in cheerful facts I've copied from the Bible!
I'm very good at starting wars and cutting rich folks' taxes
And curbing reproductive rights, including prophylaxis.
I welcome corporations but I never let the public in --
I am the very model of a modern-times Republican.

As Congressmen of G.O.P. our status is precarious
If we don't vote the way we’re told in matters small or serious;
The House that's White is always right, no matter what the price tag.
We rubber-stamp our Leader's whim just like the German Reichstag.
We never, never criticize or seek accountability
Especially in matters Constitutional or milit'ry!
The boys on K and Tom DeLay will write us checks enormous
As long as we oblige them by our votes and our performance.
We always trap the Democrats by changing rules as needed;
When they complain we just explain: fair play’s been superseded.
Unless the times have changed when we’re for reelection up again,
We'll be the very models of the modern-times Republican!

I'm Red State Jim and worship Him for wisdom, wit and leadership
As do all my companions in the mainstream med'ya's readership
They say He's made the U.S.A. beloved and invincible
So it's okay that He ignores our democratic principles!
If someone disagrees with Him, no matter what the reason is
It merely shows to all that she's seditious and she's treasonous;
'Cause everyone must give to Him a loyalty unswervative --
Obedient's how you convince us you're a true conservative.
It’s Kneel to the Chief, 'cause He's the unit'ry executive
(And Jeb, of course, is next in line, for two more terms consecutive.)
So, polish up your jackboots, stand up straight, and pull your stomach in
And be the very model of a modern-times Republican!

Apologies, of course, to Gilbert & Sullivan.

7. bravo!
I did a grad-level presentation on the satrical content of G&S... Gilbert would be proud of your efforts. If one actually studies the operettas, one can see that G&S were able to nail Victorian society. Those Modern Major Generals really Did exist, and they were every bit as incompetant as the lyrics indicate. And Sullivan was a musical genius.

For fans- G&S were the first to insist on electric stage lighting for their productions. Up until then, theaters were still using gas lights. It was a great advertising pitch- "come see __(insert operetta)__, featuring the newest, safe electric lighting"

15. I don't do it at all.
So, not very orphan.

It's written by Stuart Thiel, check his website in the link next time you wonder how a single poll fits into the greater scheme of things.
