Question about copyright rules and posting on DU
If someone started a thread by admiring Maureen Dowd's latest column and posting the first four paragraphs, could I post my favorite four paragraphs from the same column?

Of course, Dowd is a NYTimes columnist and as such, her complete op-eds are only available online to "Select" subscribers.

Help!

TIA

1. I have tried cutting and pasting entire columns to email to others.
And they are truncated by NYTimes.

We could give it a try.

2. We should only be posting 4 para. in total in the whole thread
Many times that is so hard to do with the good articles.

3. asking cause I have "Select" status - disappointed seeing Krugman, Rich...
... Herbert, and Dowd disappear from DU.

Are you sure, Robbien?

5. Yes I am. So sorry
I know we have been pushing the issue around here (I'm guilty of doing it too). There is a Libertarian blog which consistantly posts more than a few paragraphs and I know they have gotten threatening letters.

4. That would go beyond "fair use."
Trying to circumvent the copyright law might put DU in jeopardy. The writer's sympathies would do no good since it would be the writer's syndicate or publisher initiating the lawsuit.

6. Per DU Rules, please post 3 or 4 paragraphs and a link.
Don't collaborate with other posters in a thread to attempt to circumvent this rule.
