Bush's Unfinished "Projects" |
|
I was chatting with a friend this evening and while engaging in our ritual "Bush-bashing," I suddenly realized something that I hadn't really noticed before, specifically that Bush seems to start "projects," gets "bored" with them, and then moves onto other "projects" without finishing the ones he's already started. I can't think of any bonafide "domestic" issues at the moment that seem to support this idea but it seems to be VERY evident in his foreign policies since 9/11 as I will proceed to point out:
1.)Bush kicked off the so-called "war on terror" in Afghanistan immediately following 9/11/01 and ran the Taliban out of Afghanistan and scattered Al-Queda around the globe but ultimately failed to capture most of the leaders of the Taliban regime (i.e. Mullah Omar) and, most notably, Bin Laden, who almost certainly was the "mastermind" behind the attacks.
2.)By fall of the following year (2002), Bush seemed to have given up on being "concerned" about Bin Laden and instead kicked off his massive "campaign" for war with Iraq, which, of course, he eventually went forward with in March 2003.
3.)More than three (3) years after invading Iraq, with support for the war is sagging among the general public, Bush seems to be turning his attention away from Iraq and appears to be "eyeing" an attack on Iran even though Iraq continues to degenerate into anarchy and possible civil war on a daily basis. I also believe that Bush even made a public comment not too long ago indicating that he believes that his SUCCESSOR, whoever it may be, may end up having to take over responsibility for "finishing" our mission in Iraq (whatever THAT involves) and bringing our troops back home.
Has anybody else noticed this tendency about Bush? Why can't the Dems use THIS to go after Bush's record on terrorism and security? It's not like Bush is just some litte kid having trouble finishing his homework assignments or sitting still in a classroom (although his behavior on 9/11 would suggest otherwise of course ;-)). He is (or is supposed to be) the adult leader of the most powerful country in the world (right now) and he has FULL control of our armed forces (no need for Congress to have to actually "declare" war anymore) and by him starting "projects" that involve overturning governments using military force, especially in parts of the world in which we are largely despised, and then neglecting and/or grossly mismanaging them afterwards, he is making the world a MORE dangerous place for the rest of us! Has anybody else noticed this tendency about Bush's foreign policy and does anybody know how the Dems might be able to "frame" this in a way that helps them (and the rest of us)?
