My Letter TO Verizon, with Response |
|
To: Gerace, James J Subject: Conctract Termination
Dear Sir:
My name is XXXXXXXX and I have been a Verizon Customer for some time now. I have had nothing but a bad time from Verizon. Now I found out Verizon has been turning over customers call logs to the NSA, WITHOUT my consent to do so.
Let me take a moment to copy back to you your own Privacy Policy.
Disclosure of Personally Identifiable Information We enable you to control how and if we disclose your personally identifiable information to other persons or entities, except as required by law or to protect the safety of customers, employees or property or except when we share such information with agents, affiliates, suppliers, vendors, consultants and contractors who use it to provide or support our products and services.
Subject to these exceptions, we will share your personally identifiable information with persons or entities outside the company only when you have consented.
An example of when we would disclose personally identifiable information to an outside person or entity is when we are served with a subpoena for customer information. In such cases, we are required to release the information. Another example would be if we share personally identifiable information with other carriers and/or with law enforcement to prevent and investigate fraud and other unlawful use of communications services. A third example would be if we share with our affiliates personally identifiable information related to products or services you currently receive from them or us.
Now I ask for one simple request. I wish to terminate one of the lines from my family plan package, with NO penalty charge. You broke your end of the contract, I should not uphold my end and pay you the early-termination fee.
If I will not be allowed to terminate a line from my contract, I will be forced to join a class-action lawsuit against Verizon/Verizon Wireless for breaching its own Privacy Policy, FCC Regulations, and the Constituation of the United States of America
I thank you for your time, and I hope this can be resolved quickly and without any legal action being taken.
Sincerely, XXXXX XXXXXX.
and Verizon's Response
Dear Customer: I appreciate your concern given the news coverage and want you to know that Verizon Wireless does not provide its customers call records, or any information from those records, to the NSA. Any suggestion in news reports that it does is utterly false.
Jim

2. I cancelled my cell service with them |

I posted a thread about it in the MA forum here. If you're interested in how the phone system works, there's another thread here.

I'm going to cancel regular phone service and cell service with them. I'm going with Working Assets. They have a cell and one phone is all I need.

4. Just make sure that WA's network has coverage where you are. |
|
Their network is much more limited than the evil one's.

5. So why did they tell me this on Friday, May 12th?: |
|
"We appreciate that the USA Today article and other reports about the possibility that the NSA is able to analyze local call data records is causing concern. Please be assured that Verizon places the highest value on protecting the privacy of our customers.
Anything to do with the NSA is of course highly classified, so we can not comment on whether or not the news article causing concern is even accurate. But we can say that, to the extent that we cooperate with government authorities, we are confident that we are complying with all applicable statutes. We appreciate the continuing opportunity to provide you with service."
This is like me responding to allegations that I sacrifice virgins (like I could find any) in my back yard by saying: "Can't tell you" and then saying a week later "No I don't and I'm offended that you said so."

6. That's an interestingly-worded response |
|
"Verizon Wireless does not provide its customers call records, or any information from those records, to the NSA." You could try writing back and say, "Well, does Verizon Wireless provide its customer call records to anybody?" Might be interesting to see if you get an explicit across-the-board denial. Just thinking about this whole Neustar thing: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1237431

My dad has service with Verizon and since I pay his bills for him I merely created a little check box that said: Please place me on the Do Not Tap list. :-)
