Republicans are cranking up the base again, must be an election year. But not just any election year, this one's going to get real crazy.

Forced into a corner by Bush's terrible tenure, republicans are pulling out all the usual sacred cows for the brain dead 25%'ers, gay marriage, anti flag desecration laws, build a wall that says 'No Mexicans', force children and immigrants to learn English or leave, etc.

When all else fails, appeal to the homophobes, xenophobes, racists and religio-nationalists who will follow Bush into hell willingly. Red meat issues that distract from all the horror going on.

They'd rather talk about this crap than the truth of course, which is that we are all screwed.

American Nationalism should be classified as a unique religion. It builds of off Christianity as Christianity did off of Judaism and other religions of the early Roman empire. The dualism of Christianity (light v. dark, good v. evil) is applied to each and every issue, simplifying even the most complex of issues into illogical jell-o. It adds heaping doses of burning hatred for anything outside of a narrow swath of features. The "god" really seems to be money, or the material goods that can be bought with it. There are rituals, there are creeds, hymns, deities, religious writ, preachers....it is a religion.
