...If so, shoud we deny a Penile Cancer vaccine to young men so they don't have--gasp!-- S-E-X ?

"What are the effects of high risk HPV cervical infections?

High risk strains of the virus are linked to cervical changes in women and could possibly lead to cervical cancer. If a woman has regular pap smears, any cervical changes that develop can be monitored and treated, if necessary, making cervical cancer extremely rare.

**** High risk HPV strains are those that are least likely to cause genital warts. Two of these same high risk strains are those that can cause penile cancer in men or anal cancer in those individuals who engage in anal intercourse.****

These cancers are extremely rare. Transmission rate from mother to baby is unknown but thought to be low."

5. Research
Edited on Sat May-20-06 10:42 AM by The Deacon
is ongoing on whether the vaccine will be as effective in boys - the main thrust at first will be those at greatest risk (girls.) And, yes, there is such a thing as penile cancer. Rare at the moment, however, so was Kaposi's Sarcoma at one time.

7. Plus, men have OUTIES....a cervix is an INNIE
If you are a guy, you'll probably notice changes to the skin of your penis. Having a regular look at your cervix is considerable more difficult.

9. Since HPV is spread by sex and both sexes can contract it...
...wouldn't it make sense to vaccinate males, too, regardless of whether THEY would enjoy a health benefit?
