It's happening folks! The tide is turning.
I just got a call from a friend who hasn't been involved - wanting to know what she can do to fight the new immigration bill. She's been pissed off at * for a long time but this pushed her over the edge. We're having dinner tonight to discuss what she can do.

4. Everything - the treatment of immigrants as invaders but
I think what pushed her over the edge was building the wall.

2. Which one?
The Sensenbrenner one that wants to turn immigrants into felons? Or the common sense one that wants to increase border security while creating a path to citizenship? Or both, because god forbid we should focus on ending the war or renewable energy or getting our citizens health care, you know, real life and death problems.

5. I think it was building the wall and something Bush said
in his radio speech this morning. I'll find out more at dinner.

3. No matter what happens on the "immigration bill," Bush wins in the
newsstream--and by means of the racial bigots he has stirred up (his only constituency). Did it never occur to you to wonder why "immigration" is even an issue? Where did it come from, suddenly? Maybe should have been an issue on 9/12/01. But now? Why?

6. Why?
More Fascist pandering, that's why!

Bush turns to big military contractors to gain control of U.S. borders

The quick fix may involve sending in the National Guard. But to really patch up the broken border, President George W. Bush is preparing to turn to a familiar administration partner: giant military contractors.

Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman, three of the largest, are among the companies that said they would submit bids within two weeks for a multibillion-dollar contract to build what the administration calls a "virtual fence" along the U.S. borders.

Using some of the same high-priced, high-tech tools these companies have already put to work in Iraq and Afghanistan - like unmanned aerial vehicles, ground surveillance satellites and motion-detection video equipment - the defense contractors are zeroing the long borders that separate Mexico and Canada from the United States.

7. two working class guys cornered me at the gas pump the other
day and raved about what the hell is going on with the idiots in power. I was just standing there and they went on twenty minutes. I was in heaven. :)

8. Several months ago, I sat on a bench in the theater lobby
waiting for the play to begin. An elderly woman sat down next to me, looked at me, and said, "What happened to the millions that are missing in Iraq?"

I told her it was billions, and the conversation evolved from there.
