Da Vinci Code movie question.
This is going out to anybody who has seen the movie. In the movie there was a book that was mentioned as the catalyst behind the 'The Inquisition' something along the lines of "how to identify and burn witches". Does anybody remember this scene and know the name of that book? I want to check it out.

1. I read the book, but don't remember that scene. However, could it have
been the "Maleus Malificarum"? (Translated as "The Hammer of Witches").

4. First you see if they weigh the same as a duck, then...
I think it's worth noting that the book in question was never approved by Rome, and, in fact, was condemned by the Church on numerous occasions, yet Brown presents it as the Vatican's own creation -- yet another example of him never letting the facts get in the way of his agenda. :puke:

6. I agree, he is a total hack.
He has capitalized on America's current fixation with conspiracy theories. I thought both the book and the movie were entertaining though.

13. What obligation does he have to the truth in a work of fiction?
I don't get it... Mind you I thought the book was kinda lame but that the story would make a good movie. I just don't understand why people demand facts in their fiction...

9. Write fiction, with a topic that will get folks all riled, and make a
rip roaring BUNDLE of dough!!! All without ANYONE dying, like, say, in Iraq!!!

On the scale of ethics, Brown has BushCo, Halliburton and all those other bastards beat by a mile.

Anyone who can't, or won't, understand the phrase "This is a work of fiction" has an agenda, too....

11. it seemed grisham and tom clancy both used 'history'
only they interpret everything in a self serving way that leaves out the dirty sneaky backstabbing creep stuff which was carried out by men who knew that IF the truth came out, it would be ignored, and meanwhile clancy and grisham etal would spread the lies...mississippi burning' was an example of renovated truth, stripped off embarassing details like madam jehoover and so on....

14. Chris Gerolmo wrote MB, Alan Parker directed it
It wasn't a book, that I know of. And I'm unaware of any connection of John Grisham to the film.

17. i recall reading sumthing years ago
MB sprang to mind when trying to recall: it concerned the killing of Medgar Evers, who was shot by a creep named brian delay beckworthy(?)....some hack threw together the book using details from history that aggravated me immensely, long ago.... MB was about the 3 kids murdered by the kakaka, w/out referring to the mind stunning courage they displayed confronting the bully and retold in 'ghosts of mississippi' which was non fiction....anyway, thanks for keeping things honest :)

10. The book itself was never authorized, but...
The intent of the book -- to root out "witches" and other presumed heretics -- was the official purpose of the Inquisition, which most certainly was fully authorized by the Holy See.

16. Its not possible for a work of fiction to contain factual innacuracies
Its like saying:

"Pfft! Star Wars is so full of factual innacuracies."

i.e. makes you look like a moron.

No offense.

Just sayin'.
