Do we have the votes in the Senate to stop an Iran War Resolution?
Kerry says Iran making "dangerous" nuclear choice

U.S. Senator and former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on Thursday that Iran was making a dangerous choice in pushing ahead with its nuclear ambitions.

"Iran has made a dangerous and silly decision of confronting not just the U.S. government but the entire international community," Kerry told reporters in the southern Indian technology hub of Hyderabad during a visit to India.

Kerry's statement came as officials from Britain, France and Germany plan to meet their counterparts from China, Russia and the United States in London next week to discuss Iran's decision to restart sensitive nuclear work. Kerry said Iran could be referred to the U.N. Security Council if the crisis continued.

Iran as an issue is going to build over the year. They are going to go to the SC it might or might not issue sanctions. Either way Iran isn't going stop their nuclear program.

Thus, I could strongly see by late Summer the administation asking for a resolution authorizing the use of force. If they actually decide to use force after the November election is a different question. But, I could strongly see Rove pushing for a resolution to authorize the use of force to divide the democratic party and destract from other issues as he did in 2002.

What Dems will vote for the Iran War Resolution? Do we have the votes to stop it?

1. I believe a declaration of war requires more than just 51%
Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they need more than that.

2. An Authorization of Military Force
Is not a decleration of war.

3. Israel's going to make the decision for us I believe.
No way we can get the American Public behind attacking Iran. But if Israel bombs Iraq nuclear facilities like they did against Iraq and Iran were to retaliate which they probably would one way or the other then.....

4. The US public would not be behind invading Iran
But, the public would have no problem with bombing Iran into pieces.

7. Not true. I saw some ignorant postings on many websites today...
I think they would get the kool-aid drinkers out in force again. I hate to say this, because it would effect me and my beautiful sons, but the only way to get people to wake up is to institute a draft. Until it hits them in their own backyard, they'll continue to turn a deaf ear, or blindly agree to what these nuts in power are doing and planning to do.

5. They have already said they are authorized to do what they want.
When you take it to the SCOTUS they'll cite Executive Power.

Or, they'll find another way: see Sey Hersh, the New Yorker: http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?050124fa_fact

This is being discussed on another thread here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=117625&mesg_id=117625

And has been discussed in a lot of threads over the last year or so.

Scary sh*t.

8. No, but what does it matter anyhow since the
administration does not feel bound by the constitution of the U.S., operates outside its provisions and feels they don't have to go to congress? People act like we still live in a prebush America or something like a democratic representative constitutional democracy or something.
