Cheney To Visit Northern California - to campaign for Doolittle & Pombo
May 20, 2006 3:59 pm US/Pacific

Cheney To Visit Northern California
(AP) SACRAMENTO Vice President Dick Cheney will visit California early next week to campaign on behalf of three Republican candidates locked in tight congressional races.

Cheney will speak at a luncheon Monday for Representative John Doolittle of Rocklin, who is in trouble because of his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Later that day, Cheney appears at an evening reception in Stockton for Representative Richard Pombo of Tracy, who is being challenged by former congressman Pete McCloskey.

On Tuesday, Cheney travels to San Diego to headline a fundraiser for Brian Bilbray, who is running in a special election runoff against Democrat Francine Busby.

Democratic Party Chair Art Torre says Cheney's California tour signifies trouble for both campaigns.

1. Gee, this'll really help their campaigns.
Great idea! Why not go the whole hog and accuse the candidates of being paedophiles? Couldn't do any more damage than having Deadeye Dick in their corner.

He's well-hated around here.

Wish I could get to Sacramento on Monday to "welcome" that asshole to Northern California.

4. Everyone is invited to join the California Nurses for the protest...
Here's an email from the CA Nurses...

Please Join the California Nurses Association…..
Protest Dick Cheney’s Corruption of Our Political Process
And Rally for CNA’s November, 2006 statewide ballot initiative for Clean Money Elections in California.

Monday, May 22
11:00 AM
Sacramento Hyatt - 1209 L St.

Cheney will be in Sacramento raising money for Congressman John Doolittle, who is caught up in the “Jack Abramoff” scandal. Doolittle accepted skyboxes at sporting events from Abramoff, failed to report them, and did favors for Abramoff’s casino and other clients. Doolittle’s wife Julie receives a 15% commission on his fundraising, and Doolittle’s Congressional Chief of Staff Rich Robinson moonlights on his campaign. With Abramoff in custody, Cheney is now lending a hand to Doolittle, and helping his corporate friends buy a little more influence.

Could there be any better argument for the California Nurses Association’s upcoming Clean Money Elections initiative? Californians are tired of the corruption and the cash register politics. Clean Money Elections, also known as public financing of campaigns, allow candidates to run for office without taking huge donations from lobbyists and corporations and without owing them favors.

Isn’t it time we cleaned up our political system?

Come join the nurses and tell Dick Cheney we’ve had enough!

5. He's coming here?
I live in Stockton, hopefully this will be the death nell for Pombo. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. You know, the one who wants to cut down our trees and drill near our beaches.

9. making it appear as if they were invited
Edited on Sat May-20-06 07:16 PM by Ksec
Maybe he will shoot them in the face and they can get extra attention from media.

I think the candidates have been payed to accept them . I would bet that promises were made to reward them if they allowed Cheney to visit. The bush admin is desperately trying to regain some credibility and making it appear as candidates are asking them to come is their goal.
