3. Jefferson

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- FBI agents were on Capitol Hill on Saturday searching the office of Rep. William Jefferson as part of a bribery investigation into the Louisiana Democrat, government officials said.

Agents searched Jefferson's New Orleans, Louisiana, home in August, but Saturday marked the first time the FBI has ever searched a congressman's Capitol Hill office, one official said.

The search in the Rayburn Office Building began at 7:15 p.m. and was expected to last several hours, FBI spokeswoman Deborah Weierman said. The affidavit and search warrant are sealed, but a portion would be made public once the search is complete, she said.

Weierman said the search was "in conjunction with an ongoing public corruption investigation."

4. You know - the ONE who just might be corrupt
I think his name is Jefferson? Don't remember where he is from. I am not in a curious enough mood to search or to even rewind my DVR back to the news break- sorry

8. And well it should be the top story
I'm all for rooting out corruption. I don't think this has anything to do with his being a Democrat. After all, who was just recently convicted and is sitting in prison tonight because of corruption in office? Duke Cunningham! This net is going to catch a lot of crooks - Dems and Pubs alike.

9. Top story on CNN, too. Says that it's the first time that a Congressman's
office on Capitol Hill has been searched by law enforcement. Interesting how it's the Democratic that gets that dubious distinction, when we know how many Repukes are under investigation.

Looks political to me.

10. If
If it was a Republican, they would say it's political, too.
It's Republican Duke Cunningham in prison tonight. As I said in a post above, this bribery scandal will catch a lot of crooks on BOTH sides of the aisle. (No, all of our people are not saints. Surprise!)

12. I have no problem with them catching the crooks, regardless of
whether there's a D or R after their name. But the first congressperson to have their Capitol offices searched was a Dem...not Cunningham's offices, not Delay's offices, not Ney's offices. For whatever reason, the FBI felt that it was necessary to search the Washington DC Congressional office of the Dem, not any of the Republicans that are under investigation. Knowing full well that a search of that kind would raise all kinds of media. Still smells more partisan to me than just the Feds doing a thorough job.

And as long as the warrant is legit and they find evidence against Jefferson, then prosecute to the fullest.

They searched Cunningham's office, home, boat, cars, everything. He is in prison. Take off the Kool-Aid blinders. Corruption is corruption is corruption.

19. According to news reports, Cunningham's offices outside of DC
were searched, as were Jefferson's back in August. But the offices on Capitol Hill were not searched, until Jefferson's on Saturday.

"Agents searched Jefferson's New Orleans, Louisiana, home in August, but Saturday marked the first time the FBI has ever searched a congressman's Capitol Hill office, one official said."

Not drinking anything, except my coffee. No problem with them going after criminals. But let's go after them all with the same vigor.

11. Nah, not political, Republicans have a natural defense...

...against legal proceedings: they've committed so many crimes that law enforcement thinks it needs to move slowly -- squeeze this guy, surveil that guy, ad nauseum. The only people for whom justice moves quickly are those who are not "well connected" into the crime spree. So it's just that it takes 3 times longer to convict a Republican due to overlapping investigations.

18. If he's a crook, the Dems should show him the door.
If you're going to raise the issue of Republican corruption you must be willing to confront it in your own party.
