Lovely. Those counting Iraq deaths are "MISSING THE BIG PICTURE"
Edited on Sun May-21-06 02:42 AM by Bluebear
MILWAUKEE - Those who count the increasing number of American soldiers killed in Iraq are missing the bigger picture, retired Gen. Tommy Franks said Saturday night.

"What we're talking about is neither 2,400, 24,000 or 240,000 lives," Franks said at the National Rifle Association's annual banquet. "Terrorism is a thing that threatens our way of life. It doesn't have anything to do with politics."

More than 2,400 soldiers have died since the beginning of the invasion of Iraq, the plan for which Franks developed and executed. He also oversaw combat in Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"I watched as America changed," Franks said. Note: SO HAVE WE. "That's not near done. We have to secure ourselves. We have to secure our Constitution."

During his 30-minute speech, Franks took an occasional jab at the media and fellow generals for attacking Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.....

1. What I want to know is what the FUCK
Any of that bullshit has to do with the NRA or its "mission."

Cuz, you know, I thought they were a "non-partisan" issue group that focused on gun rights. Not, you know, a platform for any and all kinds of RW Bushbot shills. :eyes:

2. to quote Charlie Brown - AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!!
What's being threatened is our FUCKING CONSTITUTION, General HEAD UP YOUR BUTT. And guess what? We're no more secure from terrorism than we were five fucking years ago. You think just because we've laid a big turd over in Iraq that all the terrorist flies are going to buzz around it forever?

6. Terrorism was increased by invading Iraq.
It was no way at all to diminish the threat of terrorism.

Franks is a vile combination of sociopath/idiot/fascist.

General Patton wouldn't have found him fit enough to even tend to his dogs.

8. Secure our Constitution?
I hope it's just a Navy/Marine idiom, but:

When you want someone to turn the radio off, you say "secure that music"

When you want somebody to shut up, you say "secure that talking"

When you want somebody to stop hammering, you say "secure that hammering"

What did he mean by "secure our Constitution"?

11. now we get a glimpse of it....
that bush never operated in a vacuum! franks owes his feeding and care to the publicly funded US military, yet he sees nothing wrong in ruining it and the nation in an illegal war which was concocted simply to fill newstime so bush inc escaped calm rational examination after 2k election, which pigmedia wasn't eager to do anyhow and needed a good plausable excuse. Ergo 911, Ergo Iraq. Tomnmy franks is the enemy of life itself, in the service of the Mighty Imp.... "nothing fails like success when working for the devil"

Defense Spending
Experts once argued whether Americans would finally grasp the enormity of the
military budget when spending reached $100 billion. Now $416 billion, and
candidates still arguing over who will spend the most, it would appear people still
haven't grasped a budget beyond comprehension.
Here's how political leaders are
spending the discretionary budget.

14. This is the new neo-CON mantra
Flipping channels I saw an all-NeoCon interview with the odious Ben Wattenberg and Karl Zinsmeister. They were cavalierly discussing "the birth" of Iraq and how wars must be fought and people must die to create a nation - as if 100,000 dead and maimed meant nothing.

18. I remember once on Insannity's show he was asked a question
According to Tommy, 4 days prior to 9/11, he spoke to CentCom Inteligence Staff and they asked him a question and that question was "General, what keeps you up at night?" and Franks said he said

"One world trade center tower falling into another, a terrorist attack on the world trade center."

Here's the video clip of his answer on the show. I've always wondered why of all his choices he picked out the towers? Prior knowledge, ya think?

23. If we're terrified of "terror" all the time, then the terrorists have won.
If we live our lives in fear and dont care about soldiers and innocent Iraqis dying...if we dont care if our phone calls are being monitored in order to catch the terrorists...if we blindly allow the govt. to do end runs around the Constitution, infringing on our rights as a US citizen,to fight "terror", ..then we are terrified and the terrorists have won.

Just my .02 cents.

29. 2454.
The words "More Than" mean nothing to a parent or child or husband or wife. These soldiers who have died were under your command. At least have the decency to know the number while you are talking about them. It isn't hard to find, even for a General.
