Murtha To Snag Honor For Speaking Out On Iraq War

(AP) WASHINGTON The first Vietnam veteran elected to Congress, US Representative John Murtha took pride in politicking quietly, behind the scenes, with Republicans and fellow Democrats alike. snip

On Monday, Murtha is to be awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in Boston for his bold pronouncement that U.S. troops should be pulled out of Iraq. snip

Murtha says he should have voiced his concerns about Iraq sooner.

6. This should be good for several on-air psychotic episodes among hate radio
hosts. A Kansas City drooling idiot spent his time last week attempting to convince local half-wits that Murtha is a dangerous fiend.

Murtha is a true hero, he deserves highest praise. Best wishes for his long, long, accident-free, airplane crash-free, anthrax-free, very healthy life.

25. JFK served so briefly..but is still giving.
His family foundation honors his memory by providing more Profiles in Courage, which are sadly hard to find these days.

15. I'm really glad to see this.
We need to honor our heroes. Hell, whackowingnuts give medals to their failures which is so telling because without this there would be no medal ceremonies.

23. Good, there are many people who are noted for their courage
but Murtha could have easily sat this one out and few would have noticed BUT he did stand up and now we would miss him. He is a true hero.

26. A Well Deserved Honor
To be truthful, I had never heard of Jack Murtha prior to his coming out against the war in Iraq. And when I read the reasoning and the plan behind his statement I instantly knew that this man was a force to be reckoned with. What I didn't know about was just how bad the situation on the ground in Iraq really was.

Over the weekend I heard a news account saying that over 1.5 million middle class Iraqi's had requested and received exit visas. These people are the building blocks for the future of Iraq except now they won't be doing their work in Iraq. There were no detail on where these Iraqi were relocating nor the ethnic composition of those fleeing Iraq. This seems like a natural story to be reported but to learn this you sure can't rely on MSM.

27. The other recipiant
On Dec. 17, 2002, Alberto Mora received information from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service that prisoners at the Guantanamo Naval Base were being abusively interrogated. Mora, a loyal conservative, had been appointed by President Bush in 2001 to serve as general counsel of the Navy. Since the Navy had no responsibility for Guantanamo interrogations, Mora could have referred the report to others in the Pentagon, or simply decided to ignore it. Instead, he chose to investigate. What he discovered was deeply disturbing.

28. This is truly deserved
Murtha is an honorable man(unlike so many in this current mis-administration)and he realized his error and has moved to correct his mistake by speaking out about it. As well as trying to bring the troops home.

This is the essence of a true hero and patriot and he does honor to the Marine Corps.
