We must reach out and meet fascism and intolerance halfway. In the compromise we will only be half-exterminated.

22. Not 'the rich' but those who profit from the labors of others. |
|
Edited on Sun May-21-06 11:39 AM by TahitiNut
It's the "ethics of income" in my opinion. When we tax income from one's own labor at rates of 35% and more, while we tax the income (dividiends, interest, rent, captial gains, et. al.) from someone else's labor at rates of 15% and below, we're truly and totally corrupted - a plantation economy where labor enriches everyone except the laborers without either measure or limits.

This is civil war, IMO. My kids need to know which side we're on.
On edit, before I get flamed, let me say that we don't exactly teach them to "hate" Republicans. We teach them to hate the policies they put forth and tell them how they effect real people and animals and the health of the planet. We teach them the dangers of theocracies, starting wars for corporate gain, accelerating global warming, and so on.

and that inborn sense of justice is really hard to get around. How many times as parents do we hear "that's not fair!"? I have encouraged this in our household........hmmmm. If something is not fair, what would make it right again? And really work on their ideas. That and taking them to rallies for a long time. It's the only way to keep hope alive somedays. Namaste

10. Well, I can't watch FOX, but interested to know why. |
|
Why do they even feel the necessity to do such a report and ask the question? Oh, sorry, just realized they're GOP shills and are probably scrambling for anything remotely positive about their party nowadays. Could they get much dumber? Let us know what they say if you can stand to watch.
I should mention that my 9-and-12-year-old grandchildren don't hate the GOP (try to teach them not to hate anyone/thing even when warranted) but they have NO use for Bush. And they pretty much figured that out on their own. Smart kids!

but if I did it would be hard not to. The thing is, in order to take back our country we need to persuade some GOP voters that they should vote for Democrats. Its hard to talk to people and persuade them if you hate them.

It's better known as raising your kids to be better citizens.
Any parent who teaches their kids to love the GOP is abusing his or her children.

Must have a code That you can live by And so Become yourself Because the past Is just a good-bye Teach you children well Your father's hell did slowly go by And feed them on your dreams The one they picks The one you'll know by Don't you ever ask them why If they told you, you would cry So just look at them and sigh And know they love you
And give of tender years Can't know the fears That your elders grew by And so please help Them with your belief They seek the turf Before they can die Teach your parents well The childrens hell Will slowly go by And feed them on your dreams The one they picks The one you'll know by Don't you ever ask them why If they told you, you would cry So just look at them and sigh And know they love you

24. I think the Repub leaders have let their guard down... |
|
Their entire Party is based on deception, to a large degree. At the heart of their Party is the propaganda that if we give everything to the rich, then the poor will be much better off. They have opened up that can of worms for all their voters to see, in technicolor. They see the huge taxbreaks given the rich. They see the huge debt left to their children and grandchildren. Many are now opening their eyes and cannot believe they were played for such fools for such a long time. They were tricked.

28. I would think that is something we don't have to teach them |
|
All kids have to do is see what the GOP is doing to this country:
1. the war in Iraq 2. NCLB 3. 50 million Americans without health insurance 4. pretending to be god fearing religious people
Kids are not stupid. I have had the pleasure of teaching children for nearly 30 years. When we have mock presidential elections every 4 years at school, the kids ALWAYS vote for the Dem candidate.

29. Actually, my kids came up with their opinions on their own. |
|
True story. My younger son has always been fairly conservative, pro-military, generally sort of Republican in his views. When he was about ten he was the only one in our household who supported the invasion of Iraq. Brought it up at dinner one night. He said, "Who here supports the war?" Silence. His father, older brother, and I definitely did not support the war (this was in 2003, shortly after the invasion). Ten-year old says, "I do. I support the war. Saddam is a bad guy. We did the right thing."
So, we didn't tell him he was wrong. We expressed our opinions and pointed out facts, and encouraged him to do the same. We didn't change his mind.
Bush changed his mind! About a year later, young son noted, "Bush lied to me. There are no weapons of mass destruction."
My question - if an 11 year old could see this, why can't more adults?

31. Why should you love people who are stealing your future? |
|
No one needs to be "taught" to hate the GOP. They're doing a damn good job of it themselves; just keep passing legislation that makes it harder to make a living, go to college, get a job, or have a private conversation; keep starting illegal wars that kill thousands of innocent people for no good reason; keep being greedy selfish fucks with no regard for the downtrodden, and within another generation you'll sow the seeds of your doom, GOPers. Oh yeah, and those wedge issues help too: nothing like further alienating kids for being different, who already feel alienated just by being young.
Nobody's being "taught" anything....why are republicans so disingenuous about cause and effect relationships? They do harm to a group of people, then wonder why that group of people are so "hateful" towards them.
Children naturally dislike Scrooge, Cruella DeVille, and other GOP archetypes, because they're mean people who do bad things. If kids can't perceive more than a hair's breadth of difference between Dick Cheney and Darth Vader, then they have themselves to blame. I mean, shit...What's to like about republicans? That they're not actually Nazi's?
