Fury on the Right
Bush's Base Betrayal

By Richard A. Viguerie
Sunday, May 21, 2006; Page B01

.................

Sixty-five months into Bush's presidency, conservatives feel betrayed. After the "Bridge to Nowhere" transportation bill, the Harriet Miers Supreme Court nomination and the Dubai Ports World deal, the immigration crisis was the tipping point for us. Indeed, a Washington Post-ABC News poll found last week that Republican disapproval of Bush's presidency had increased from 16 percent to 30 percent in one month. It is largely the defection of conservatives that is driving the president's poll numbers to new lows.

.......................

The main cause of conservatives' anger with Bush is this: He talked like a conservative to win our votes but never governed like a conservative.

.................

I've never seen conservatives so downright fed up as they are today. The current relationship between Washington Republicans and the nation's conservatives makes me think of a cheating husband whose wife catches him, and forgives him, time and time again. Then one day he comes home to discover that she has packed her bags and called a cab -- and a divorce lawyer.

As the philanderer learns: Hell hath no fury. . .

5. They are blinded by free-floating hate. They carry a rage within, that
feeds on that hate, and they act from that cesspoll of emptiness, screeching at anyone not exactly like themselves. They are miserable creatures lashing out at whatever their twisted "leaders" tell them is the cause of thier misery, oblivious to the fact that the real source of thier murky, pathetic, hypocritical tortured existence actually resides within them - a shallow, morally vacant abyss that once was perhaps their soul, their humanity. They hate themselves, and all around them. And what they want is for everyone to be as miserable as they are.

4. The problem is that he's just the culmination of all the economic
stupidity that began under Reagan, stupidity that conservatives still heartily embrace, the stupidity that says the Laffer Curve works when taxes are under 90%, that fattening the rich does something for the larger population, that cutting taxes increases revenue, that the free market will set fair wages.

We on the left told them it was crap 26 years ago and we're telling them it's crap now. It has never worked in the past, here or elsewhere, is not working now, and will never work in the futures.

Conservatives still believe that if we try all this stuff long enough, it will somehow start to work and tend to blame Stupid, blame Democrats, blame working people, blame immigrants, and generally blame everything and everyone but their own bankrupt philosophy.

When they start to wake up, let me know. Right now they'll just keep voting pubbie, more like battered spouses than cuckolded spouses. They just keep coming back again and again for more punishment because they LOOOOOVE their party.

7. Now THAT'S the kind of infighting I've been waiting for!
Yes, conservatives, show your anger and stay home in 2006 and 2008. It's a capital idea.

Beelzebush? THAT'S who he is. THAT'S what he does. His character was revealed in 2000 when he stole the election in broad daylight. The day he said he'd sue to keep votes from being counted told me all I needed to know about him.
