"An Inconvenient Truth" - take the pledge
If you haven't already, please take the pledge to see "An Inconvenient Truth" this summer. I know this movie has been discussed a bit here at DU lately, but I believe it bears repeating.

This movie opens in select theaters on May 24, and then rolls out to other cities nationwide throughout the month of June. This could be the most important film you see this year. Find a local theater, and take your family and friends to see it.

Send the link below to everyone you know. Learn more about this issue, get involved, and educate others.

Take the pledge. Do it now.

3. staggered release=bad
I think the staggered release is going to seriously detract from the impact of the film.

If it had a standard opening day there might be enough momentum to get a national discussion going.
If nothing else enough to generate it's own PR.

Staggering the release is, IMHO, just going to ensure that it's not in the forefront of enough peoples' consciousness to result in critical mass.

4. I'm not so sure. I think it could go either way.
"Brokeback Mountain" also had a staggered release last year. It opened in a few theaters to get the buzz going, and by the time it reached its full release theaters were packed. That movie generated a lot of dialog nationwide, was definitely at the forefront of peoples' consciousness, and I'm sure the revenue earned exceed a lot of peoples' expectations. If it had had a standard release date, I doubt it would have done as well. In this case, the staggered release worked very well.

But I agree with you on one point, whether or not the staggered release will result in enough people caring about this issue to make a difference remains to be seen. But there's no guarantee that would happen with a standard release date, either.

14. hope you're right
this is an issue that needs to get a lot more attention than it currently does.

I suspect, however, that the staggered release (in this case) was not done intentionally and is being driven by who will run it.

The odd thing is my city isn't even listed as having an opening... and I live in a very blue city.
Maybe they figured we're all dems so they don't need to worry about us.

10. Great links! They're doing the same thing to Hillary too.
The "liberal" media is so horrified about a potential Hillary run in 2008 that they are already working hard to try to discredit her. It's almost like it's a foregone conclusion that she will get the Dem nomination. But then again, I guess the media vs. Hillary fight is nothing new...

By doing the same to Gore, they're just hedging they're bets just in case he runs too. These media asshats are so dispicable. Why can't they once, just once, examine the message instead of immediately dismissing the messenger?
