Question: Are most Wal-Mart shoppers Dems or Repubs?
There's some obese, nasty looking people that I've seen in Wal-Mart.

2. Honestly I think they are people that are trying to get
cheap products because they are barely making it...I don't shop there...I will pay higher prices....(I also have an aversion to stores that literally stink) can't do it....

14. RE: Stinky stores
The only stinky store I like is the Asian super market. I couldn't live without it.

leanings?

There are plenty of FAT Liberals on this board. And we object to fat being an insult.

And what were YOU doing in Wal-Mart?

4. And you can tell their party because of that?
"Nasty-looking" people come in all "flavors". Lack of affordable medical care means no dermatology appointments, hair appointments, dental appointments..

Obese people often are poor.. Carbs & fats are cheaper than proteins..Depression over personal status can also lead to obesity..

I think people who shop at walmart are people who NEED to get the most for their dollars, even if they are slitting their own wrists as the shop there.. walmart puts other stores out of business, and before long, they are the ONLY place to shop...

5. Depends on where Wally's is
I'm sure in Utah they're pubbies. Around my 'hood, they're Dems.

Most are folks who don't have an alternative, they have to go where they can get their laundry soap the cheapest.

8. Mostly, they're just poor people
Trying to stretch a dollar, if we had better health care, and if people could afford to eat the way they're supposed to with bucoo servings of fresh fruits and vegatables.
Then they would look better.

10. Most Wal-Mart shoppers are POOR.
For a long time, when I had 2 diabetics in the house and no insurance, I bought insulin and syringes at Wal-Mart. Insulin there was $16/vial vs. $32/vial at the pharmacy and syringes were $11/100 vs. $26/100 at the pharmacy. Sometimes you just have no choice.

12. Equal Mix Of Both More Than Likely. If Anything, Probably More Democrat
Since walmart shoppers are generally more middle to lower class financially, those classes tend to be made up of more democrats than republicans by a ratio standard. But regardless, no way to really know for sure. There are millions of both democrats, independants and republicans that shop at walmart.

13. I think most Wal-Mart shoppers are people who can't afford
to shop elsewhere, regardless of party affiliation. A lot of them probably aren't thinking about, or may not know about, Wal-Mart's nasty practices. And before you say that they SHOULD think about it, consider this -- if you are barely hanging on financially (which is the case for a lot of people), your first priority is getting as much as you can for your money. Whether Wal-Mart is the "right or wrong" place to shop is going to be a ways down your list of priorities.

Think of Maslow's hierarchy of needs:

1. Physiological: Hunger, thirst, bodily comforts, etc.
2. Safety/Security: Out of danger.
3. Belongingness and Love: Affiliate with others, be accepted.
4. Esteem: To achieve, be competent, gain approval and recognition.

If someone is barely making it paycheck to paycheck, you are going to be concerned primarily with feeding yourself and your family. If you can get more for your money at Wal-Mart, that's where you're going to shop, if there aren't any good alternatives for you. The politics of the situation, the politics of Wal-Mart, probably aren't even going to enter into your mind, because you can't afford it. And even if they DO, you might still shop there, again, because you can get more bang for the buck. My youngest sister shops at Wal-Mart a lot, though she IS aware of the negatives of the place. For her, making sure her son has enough food is more important.

And as for your comment that Wal-Mart shoppers are "obese, nasty", what does that have to do with anything? Obesity is running rampant in this country, and isn't confined to Wal-Mart shoppers. And nasty? I used to work at an upscale department store, and I encountered many a nasty customer there. Nastiness is not confined to the lower end of the economic scale.

Peace.

15. If only there were some alternative...
I hate Wal-Mart as much as the next well informed, progressively-minded individual. The problem is that they're so damn convenient and cheap. There are three Wal-Marts in the town that I live in - typically I will shop at Meijers (though I'm sure they're probably not much better), but often times I will go to Wal-Mart since it's just closer and cheaper. I'm not sure if Republicans or Democrats value convenience and penny-pinching more.

But as to your comment, I don't necessarily take offense to it, I just think it doesn't relate to political affiliation and is a fairly shallow observation.

16. I shop at Walmart
I used to shop at Fry's (named Kroger in other parts of U.S.) but after Walmart kept getting bigger and building more stores the prices at Fry's went up. I can't afford to do the bulk of my shopping anywhere else. I do still buy my meats at Fry's they are still actually cheaper and provide a better quality. Other than that I pay more for just about every single item at Fry's or any other grocer in my area.
Years ago I would get the Wed. paper and map out my route and shop at several different grocery stores just for the sale items. I can't afford the gas to do that anymore and Walmart price matches everything.
Sorry, but I'm not ashamed of shopping at Walmart. I think it sucks what they have done to communities like mine but at this point the only statement I would be making by not shopping at Walmart would be too costly to my family and our meager budget.

21. Obese - unfortunately; nasty - not if I can help it.
Before we retired, when we lived in a city, I wouldn't go near a Walmart. And then we moved to a small town. I don't know what this town was like B.W. but now there are some things you can't buy anywhere else. Like towels. Or toasters. Or drinking glasses. We shop at Albertson's when we can (their produce & meat are much better) but when you live on a fixed income sometimes you don't have much choice.

Age and weight have caught up with me, and I really don't like being categorized as "nasty".
