Montenegro independence lead now wafer-thin: pollsters
14 minutes ago

PODGORICA, Serbia and Montenegro (Reuters) - Montenegro voted by a narrow margin in favor of independence on Sunday in a referendum on ending its state union with Serbia, according to unofficial projections of the result.

Zoran Lucic of the Center for Free Elections and Democracy (CESID) said the projected result was 55.3 percent in favor of independence, significantly lower than an earlier projection of 56.3 percent, which triggered explosive celebrations in the capital.

The "Yes" camp needs a 55 percent majority for independence to succeed.
